It’s strange being a married non-mother when you pass the age of forty. Why aren’t there more of me? What can I use as the excuse for my embarrassing “career”? Why do I always make a point of telling people I hate cats? Why do I sometimes feel I should be filling my time in a more useful way?

I’m not sure whether this is a childfree lifestyle blog or a childless by circumstances blog.

But it will probably be a bit of both.

I’m trying to find a footing in a society that seems to have become more family-fixated and baby-mad than ever. I want to be cool with the fact that I don’t need to be Helen Mirren – I am allowed to not have kids and just be my average self.
