Windy Haiku

~

scattered by the wind

creative thoughts swirl around

grounded by the pen

~

1. A Haiku needs to be 17 syllables in a 5,7,5 formation.

2.The two sentences need to operate independently:

scattered by the wind, creative thoughts swirl around

creative thoughts swirl around, grounded by the pen

3. It should relate to nature or natural forces

4. The two sentences need to express opposites: scattered v grounded

5. And new to me, I learnt in Japan that a Haiku is not a Haiku unless it relates to one of the four seasons. Apparently there is a Haiku dictionary with all the  hundreds of words in it that can be said to relate to seasons. I’m hoping wind relates to Autumn, it should, don’t you think –  if it does then BOOSH! I’ve nailed it!

This haiku also relates to my day – it is VERY windy here – I am not a fan of the wind (oh dear there is a terrible pun in there somewhere) it makes me very unsettled, but doing some writing, doodling, drawing and writing a haiku, that has made me feel calm and settled, mmm happy Saturday –  at last.

Update:

ooops – almost forgot:

6. It is best if the Haiku carries a helpful message or wise insight – my message:

creativity helps, whatever the situation, it helps.

Joining in with Ronovan’s weekly haiku challenge. He gave us the prompt words COVER and COLOUR this week.

Ronovan also invites us to write other forms of poems in the haiku family of poetry. I have gone for a Tanka this week, which is a Haiku 5,7,5 syllable pattern, followed with two lines of 7 syllables each.

Pop over to see Edwina’s Haiku using these prompt words as always she makes me smile! And don’t miss Melissa’s amazingly rich, inspiring and varied post, I don’t know how she does it!

Cathy has entered a great photo taken not too far from where I live, how I love that place. So many different greys, love it!

As you might have guessed – I’m BACK!

Home after the most amazing trip to Japan – what a wonderful country – I have fallen in love with the place and the people. Already I’m wondering about going back one day. If you ever get the chance to go – GO!

I’m so excited about being able to share my journey with you, although right now  I am still recovering as I feel exhausted and have spent most of the last two days in bed recharging the batteries.

I travelled with a group of 11 other textile enthusiasts and our superb Japanese Guide, Yuka.

Jeni was the first to photograph a manhole cover and after that several of us were hooked! Our guide told us there was a website with a collection of the cover designs, and I have just looked that up – incredible designs – click here to see some more.

The manhole cover above was found in Nagoya which is well known for its tie-dye fabrics and we stopped here for a tie-dye workshop whilst on our way from Tokyo to Kyoto. I’ll be sharing more about this workshop and others later – ooooh so much I want to tell you about …. but first I need to sort the hundreds of photos out – hurray for digital cameras!

Next Week’s Photo Prompt is REMEMBER.

Spin

I did not want to miss the photo challenge, so I set this up before I went away. It is a picture of the spinning metal wind sculpture I have in my garden. Particularly lovely when there is just a slight breeze.

Joining in with Ronovan’s haiku challenge.

his prompt words this week are CRANE and GOLD.

serendipity as I discover that the crane is considered a sacred bird in Japan and wishes will be granted to those who fold one thousand origami cranes. I have taken a photo of an origami crane left at a shrine which I will add to this post on my return.

at the moment I can only post photos which I have taken on the iPad.

and it is my birthday today! What a happy day, off to see a Japanese garden and art museum here in Fukuoka before flying to Tokyo.

update: after posting the above, we visited a Japanese garden in Fukuoka and on entry we were given an origami crane for longevity! How magical is that! Can you see the crane in the picture?
