Danielle Gregoire (b. April 17, 1979) is a Democratic member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, representing the Fourth Middlesex district. She was first elected to the chamber in 2012.

Gregoire previously served the Fourth Middlesex district from 2009 to 2011. She has served on the Marlboro Democratic City Committee.[1]

Education and Local Aid

  • During my terms as State Rep. we have increased the amount of funding for education and local government every budget. Serving as the House Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Education, I have focused on education policy that will help Massachusetts’ students become prepared for post-secondary education and enable them to better compete in a global economy. I was proud to support kindergarten expansion grants, regional school transportation reimbursements, and an increase in the special education circuit breaker.

The Opioid Crisis

  • MA is leading the nation in enacting policy to address the scourge of addiction facing our residents. In our omnibus legislation we added funding for treatment centers, limited first time opioid prescriptions for adults and all opiate prescriptions for minors to a 7 day supply, and integrated substance use and addiction education into annual high school sports head injury prevention training and drivers education courses. Additional sections create a first in the nation drug stewardship program to be funded by the pharmaceutical industry and aimed at the collection, transportation and safe disposal of unwanted drugs. These are just a few of the provisions contained within the legislation and one of many ways in which the legislature is tackling this public health crisis head on.

Veterans Issues

  • Massachusetts is number one in veterans’ services but we do not rest on our previous accomplishments such as Valor Act I and II. This session I was proud to support the HOME act which provides excise tax exemptions for service members during deployment, extends the veterans long term care commission and provides a property tax exemption for the surviving spouse of any veteran or servicemember who suffers an active duty illness or injury that leads to their passing. It expands the public service scholarship to children of any military or serviceperson MIA or POW. The Stolen Valor Act, also passed this session, places additional penalties on those who misrepresent themselves as veterans or active military in order to gain financial advantage.[2]

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 3, 2014. Incumbent Danielle Gregoire was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Matthew Elder was unopposed in the Republican primary. Gregoire defeated Elder and Kristine Coffey-Donahue (I) in the general election.[6]

Gregoire won election in the 2012 election for Massachusetts House of Representatives Fourth Middlesex District. Gregoire defeated Joseph Paul Richard Collins, Sr. in the September 6 Democratic primary and defeated incumbent Steven Levy (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[7]

Gregoire lost her bid for re-election to the Fourth Middlesex seat in 2010. She had no primary opposition. She was defeated by Steven Levy (R) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[8][9]
