Why submit to AoB PLANTS?
10 reasons why you should consider submitting your research to AoB PLANTS.
Open access publication charges
Our charge of $1,000 per published article is among the lowest levied by any open-access journal in the biological sciences and illustrates the commitment of AoB PLANTS to provide an economical means for rapidly publishing research to a global audience.
Review procedures
AoB PLANTS is committed to evaluating submitted manuscripts in a fair and transparent fashion and believes that the personal characteristics of authors should not influence how manuscripts are handled during the review process.

Pollination success following loss of a frequent pollinator: the role of compensatory visitation by other effective pollinators
Pollinator abundance is declining worldwide and may lower the quantity and quality of pollination services to flowering plant populations. Loss of an important pollinator is often assumed to reduce the amount of pollen received by stigmas of a focal species (pollination success), yet this assumption has rarely been tested experimentally.
Heteroploid reticulate evolution and taxonomic status of an endemic species with bicentric geographical distribution
This study examines the evolutionary origin and revises the species status of Campanula baumgartenii, a rare endemic species from the polyploid complex Campanula section Heterophylla.
Phylogeography of a widespread species: pre-glacial vicariance, refugia, occasional blocking straits and long-distance migrations
Phylogeographic studies give us the opportunity to reconstruct the historical migrations of species and link them with climatic and geographic variation. This article describes the phylogeographic structure species with one-dimensional distribution ranges and checks for concordance with patterns seen in other Mediterranean plants.
Correlations of polyploidy and apomixis with elevation and associated environmental gradients in an alpine plant
Apomictic plants expand their geographical distributions more to higher elevations compared to their sexual progenitors. This study examines whether this tendency is related to mode of reproduction itself or represents a side effect of polyploidy.
Plant performance was greater in the soils of more distantly related plants for an herbaceous understory species
Growing evidence suggests that plant–soil interactions have important implications for plant community composition. However, the role of phylogenetic relatedness in governing interactions between plants and soil biota is unclear. This study explores how phylogeny might influence plant–soil interactions.
Factors driving the global decline of cycad diversity
Mounting evidence indicates that we are witnessing the sixth mass extinction period. This article uses a phylogenetic comparative method and fitting a cumulative link mixed effect model on biological, ecological and evolutionary data of cycads to investigate.
