This is where it all started, where Mama Ninfa first stuffed chargrilled sliced beef into a handmade flour tortilla and launched the national fajita craze. The Original Ninfa’s on Navigation…
The Original Ninfa’s on Navigation was created by “Mama” Ninfa Laurenzo in 1973 after the death of her husband, John. She started by grilling skirt steak and serving it in tortillas from her family’s struggling tortilla factory. The resulting dish – “Tacos al Carbon” (which later became known as “Fajitas”) was the basis for Mama Ninfa’s legend in Houston and in the history of Tex-Mex cuisine. Mama Ninfa passed away in 2001, and in 2005, Legacy Restaurants purchased The Original Ninfa’s. In the ensuing years, Legacy and Executive Chef Alex Padilla have restored, updated, and improved The Original Ninfa’s. After more than 40 years in business, The Original Ninfa’s on Navigation is more popular than ever and still is serving “The Best Mexican Food in Texas Since Texas was in Mexico!™”
Alex Padilla, Executive Chef
Alex Padilla was born in San Pedro, Honduras. At age 16, he moved with his family to Houston where his mother was hired by Mama Ninfa as a line cook. His mother’s workplace was Alex’s first exposure to the restaurant world. His experience set Alex on the road to a remarkable career. At age 19, he left Houston for San Francisco and went to work for Nancy Oakes, one of the most celebrated chefs in America. Alex soon became an apprentice to Ms. Oakes and she trained him to be a master chef himself. Alex ultimately rose to become the executive sous chef of Boulevard, Ms. Oakes’ critically-acclaimed James Beard award-winning restaurant. Alex has traveled extensively in Mexico and Europe to research menus and develop his kitchen techniques. In 2006, Alex decided to come back home to Texas to become the Executive Chef of the Original Ninfa’s on Navigation. He has worked tirelessly to honor the standards set by Mama Ninfa and to keep The Original Ninfa’s on Navigation on the cutting edge of Mexican cuisine in the South.

The Original Ninfa’s can cater your next corporate or personal event whether it’s a meeting for 20 people in your office or a wedding for 250 in your back yard. Our highly trained staff can either deliver food to you as a drop-off, or we can provide a full service catering experience with food, beverage and set-up/clean-up services. We would be happy to provide you with information on our delivery and catering services and put together a proposal for you. Our new private dining room is a welcome addition to The Original Ninfa’s on Navigation. With 660 square feet of newly renovated space, our private dining room – lovingly called, “Mama’s Room”, can accommodate up to 70 seated guests, and 75 guests cocktail-style. It is the perfect spot for your next social or corporate event!

SHUTTLE
Ninfa’s Free Shuttle Service
We know that parking at the stadium can be difficult, so we’ve taken the hassle out of attending your favorite game or event! The Original Ninfa’s offers free shuttle service to and from all ASTROS, ROCKETS, and DYNAMO games, as well as to and from other selected events in the area. It’s simple – just park or valet at the restaurant, enjoy food and drinks, and hop on the free shuttle to your event. The shuttle runs continuously – It starts running one hour before the game or event begins and stops running one hour after the game or event concludes. A “SHUTTLE VOUCHER” from that day (obtained from server or the manager) is required to ride the shuttle to and from the games.
