What are they?
Subject Masterclasses are subject-specific events that offer students a flavour of undergraduate study and an introduction to the University of Cambridge.
Our masterclasses are aimed at academically able students in Year 12 (or equivalent). The Masterclasses provide students with an opportunity to explore topics of interest beyond what is covered within school curriculum and offer the chance to experience typical undergraduate teaching at Cambridge.
A range of subjects is offered each year, which in the past has included Chemistry, Engineering, Genetics, Geography, History, Languages, Mathematics, Music and Psychology.
Each Masterclass includes:
- two taster lectures delivered by leading academic staff from the University
- the opportunity to discuss and ask questions
- an introduction to the Cambridge admissions process
- the opportunity to hear about life as a Cambridge student from current undergraduates
When are they?
Subject Masterclasses take place on selected days throughout the year. The next round will take place in the autumn and bookings should open in September, so please revisit this page then.
How do I book?
Booking is essential. Booking is open to individuals and costs £20, to cover event costs. Funded places are available for some students – details are given on the booking page for each Masterclass (when dates become available).
Please note: due to high demand, attendance is limited to a maximum of two different subject Masterclasses per individual on different dates. We're unable to accept bookings from parents or teachers. Bookings are non-transferable. Refund requests can only be accepted up to 7 days prior to the event start date. Whilst staff and current students are available throughout the event, we're not responsible for students beyond our legal responsibilities as event organisers.
Full joining instructions and travel information will be sent out to delegates approximately two weeks before each Masterclass. Please check your inbox and spam/junk mail folders regularly around this time. If you haven't received the joining instructions by two days prior to the event, please email the Masterclass Team.
