This is a guest post by a group of engineering students at the Costa Rica Institute of Technology, showing the importance of individual mappers in getting the less common perspective when evaluating mobility conditions in cities around the world.

The goal of these webinars is for OSM communities to share their experiences, challenges and ideas on five central themes - gender, youth, advocacy, data integration and Leave No One Behind. Each webinar will have 3 communities presenting, followed by an open discussion around challenges they’ve faced along the road, with the goal to share learnings across community projects.

The building extraction is done in two stages:

Semantic Segmentation – Recognizing building pixels on the aerial image using DNNs
Polygonization – Converting building pixel blobs into polygons
