We are indebted to the unknown photographer who captured the interior of the renowned Parthenon (ca. 1850's).

One of the earliest archival images of the Parthenon and its magnificent Doric columns were captured by Greek photographer, Dimitris Konstantinou in 1861.
Despite the elements, occupation by foreign countries, explosions, etc., this magnificent temple still stands true and is a testament to the beauty and precision of classical Greek architecture.

Irish painter and traveler, Edward Dodwell in his travels throughout Greece in the early nineteenth century wrote, “Almost every rock, every promontory, every river, is haunted by the shadows of the mighty dead."
These two paintings by Dodwell are of the Parthenon (top) and the Erechtheum also known as the 'Porch of Maidens' which included the famous Caryatids.
Dodwell's paintings were recently part of an exhibition at The J. Paul Getty Museum which included many of his watercolors relative to the temples and landmarks of ancient Greece.

An excellent painting by German artist, Adolf Böhm entitled, "Die Akropolis" and whose focus is the iconic Parthenon (Παρθενώνας).
The temple is the greatest example of the Doric Order and despite the appropriation of several of its sculptures/marbles, the Parthenon will remain as the pinnacle of cultural achievement by the nation of Greece.
The painting is estimated to have been completed in 1844.
