Higher States of Consciousness Discovered
"Neuroscientists from the University of Sussex made a pretty neat discovery as they claim to have just found evidence of a higher state of consciousness. Consciousness is measured on a sliding scale by the diversity of the brain signals given out and ranges from wakefulness to a deep coma, normally. However, researchers have now found that when under the influence of certain drugs, that diversity range is well overstepped."

Has The Source of Consciousness Been Found?
Or at least additional support for the powerful interconnectedness which joins us through the energy fields of our hearts?
Science showing us what thousands of years of spiritual and contemplative practices have also told us - love and compassion unite and elevate us individually and collectively.
"Research findings have shown that as we practice heart coherence and radiate love and compassion, our heart generates a coherent electromagnetic wave into the local field environment that facilitates social coherence, whether in the home, workplace, classroom or sitting around a table. As more individuals radiate heart coherence, it builds an energetic field that makes it easier for others to connect with their heart. So, theoretically it is possible that enough people building individual and social coherence could actually contribute to an unfolding global coherence."
"For years, quantum physicists have been trying to catch up to what many ancient spiritual practices have been preaching for centuries. We, along with everything else in existence, are made up of consciousness. Ancient yogic, Hindu, and Buddhist texts claim that we are fundamentally connected to everything, a concept commonly referred to as “oneness,” but only now is science proving the truth of these claims."
"Researchers at Harvard University have been studying consciousness, and more specifically, where exactly it originates in human beings. What does it mean to be human? Are we defined by our emotions, the awareness of our existence, or something much greater? These are the questions the scientific community are finally starting to ask."

Can Some Forms of Brain Damage Enrich Consciousness?
"Do some forms of impairment correlate with an enrichment of consciousness or cognitive skill?" (+Bernardo Kastrup)
"As it turns out, there are reliable reports in the medical literature of—yes—bullet wounds to the head, stroke, concussion, meningitis, and even the progression of dementia leading to expanded cognitive and artistic skills." (Bernardo Kastrup)
"Clearly, there is a broad and consistent pattern associating impairment of brain function with—in the words of Harris—“extraordinary scientific, artistic, and spiritual insights.”" (Bernardo Kastrup)

Is Consciousness Everywhere?
"Panpsychism is one of the oldest of all philosophical doctrines extant and was put forth by the ancient Greeks, in particular Thales of Miletus and Plato. Philosopher Baruch Spinoza and mathematician and universal genius Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, who laid down the intellectual foundations for the Age of Enlightenment, argued for panpsychism, as did philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, father of American psychology William James, and Jesuit paleontologist Teilhard de Chardin. It declined in popularity with the rise of positivism in the 20th century."
"As a natural scientist, I find a version of panpsychism modified for the 21st century to be the single most elegant and parsimonious explanation for the universe I find myself in. There are three broad reasons why panpsychism is appealing to the modern mind."

Materialism Unable to Explain Consciousness
"Today, though, it is hard to reconcile that confidence with the multiple interpretations of quantum mechanics. Newtonian mechanics might be fine for explaining the activity of the brain. It can handle things such as blood flow through capillaries and chemical diffusion across synapses, but the ground of materialism becomes far more shaky when we attempt to grapple with the more profound mystery of the mind, meaning the weirdness of being an experiencing subject. In this domain, there is no avoiding the scientific and philosophical complications that come with quantum mechanics."
"Rather than sweeping away the mystery of mind by attributing it to the mechanisms of matter, we can begin to move forward by acknowledging where the multiple interpretations of quantum mechanics leave us. It’s been more than 20 years since the Australian philosopher David Chalmers introduced the idea of a ‘hard problem of consciousness’. Following work by the American philosopher Thomas Nagel, Chalmers pointed to the vividness – the intrinsic presence – of the perceiving subject’s experience as a problem no explanatory account of consciousness seems capable of embracing. Chalmers’s position struck a nerve with many philosophers, articulating the sense that there was fundamentally something more occurring in consciousness than just computing with meat. But what is that ‘more’?"

New Consciousness Theory Is Spiritual
"It appears that we are approaching a unique time in the history of man and science where empirical measures and deductive reasoning can actually inform us spiritually. Integrated Information Theory (IIT)—put forth by neuroscientists Giulio Tononi and Christof Koch—is a new framework that describes a way to experimentally measure the extent to which a system is conscious."

Social-Media & The Light Of Consciousness
Had to post this as I begin +Steve Taylor's new book The Leap: The Psychology of Spiritual Awakening. As we utilize social media and other interconnected communications and collaboration technologies, we should be aware (from a Karmic perspective) of what we choose to send out into this technology-driven noosphere.
Think about this every time you are about to post something. Does the content of what you are about to post reflect or encourage the best light of your consciousness and the form of consciousness you would like to spread across the world?
"Many challenges you encounter, whether of a personal or collective nature, will have been created by human unconsciousness, either your own or that of other people. Every seeming obstacle to your happiness or fulfillment is a potential portal into presence! Just modify your response to it and see what happens. Your life is not determined by what happens to you, but by how you respond to what happens. Most importantly, don’t add to the collective unconsciousness, which manifests particularly in the media and politics, through your reactivity. Bring the light of consciousness to every encounter, every problem, and every Facebook post!" (Eckhart Tolle (Forward) - The Leap by Steve Taylor)

Will Conscious AI Come in Our Lifetimes?
"How likely is it that artificial intelligence will achieve a human-level intelligence in the next 10 years, 20 years, 100 years, or for that matter ever? If you know researchers, you know they don’t like to prognosticate about future outcomes."

Consciousness & Quantum Physics
"Some scientists think we already understand what consciousness is, or that it is a mere illusion. But many others feel we have not grasped where consciousness comes from at all."
"The perennial puzzle of consciousness has even led some researchers to invoke quantum physics to explain it. That notion has always been met with skepticism, which is not surprising: it does not sound wise to explain one mystery with another. But such ideas are not obviously absurd, and neither are they arbitrary."
"Quantum mechanics is the best theory we have for describing the world at the nuts-and-bolts level of atoms and subatomic particles. Perhaps the most renowned of its mysteries is the fact that the outcome of a quantum experiment can change depending on whether or not we choose to measure some property of the particles involved."

Are We Facing a World Without Consciousness?
"A worry for Australian philosopher and cognitive scientist David Chalmers is creating a world devoid of consciousness. He sees the discussion of future superintelligences often presume that eventually AIs will become conscious. But what if that kind of sci-fi possibility that we will create completely artificial humans is not going to come to fruition? Instead, we could be creating a world endowed with artificial intelligence but not actual consciousness."
