TTIM 76 – Orinta Labutyte in Lithuania
Lithuania is one of the less known though most beautiful and interesting countries in Europe and few people know it as well as Orinta Labutyte.
Orinta is a professional tour guide and traveler photographer based in Vilnius. She sat down to chat with +Ralph Velasco about the many things that might entice visitors to come to her home country and dispel some myths about it. Ralph and Orinta also discussed about traveling to Turkey and Iran, where she has led several of her own tours.

TTIM 75 – Matt Brandon
For this week’s episode of the podcast, I had a great conversation with +Matt Brandon.
Matt Brandon is a Malaysia-based assignment photographer; Matt has experience photographing for nonprofits, assignment, and editorial work. Recently Matt was the still photographer for Indian Summers a Channel 4 & PBS series filmed in Penang, Malaysia. Matt works well with writers and producers. Matt often collaborates with NGOs to tell their stories and to train their field staff to do the same.
Amongst the topics discussed were the importance of the human form in composition, how to meld in with the crowd, what elements contribute to stronger photos, how to create narrative depth through layering of various elements. We hope you will find this interview as insightful as it was for us.

TTIM 73 – Drone Photography Special
DJI Mavic ProDrones (a.k.a. UAVs or quadcopters) are all the rage now, despite many governments’ attempts to stifle their expansion (or to ensure safety, if you prefer).
I recently decided to jump on the bandwagon and got myself a DJI Mavic Pro, which I started using to take stills and videos.
I sat down with +Ralph Velasco to chat about his new toy and about what new opportunities it opens up for photographers.

Our guest for this week, +Michael Muraz, is an award-winning commercial and fine art architecture photographer based in Toronto, Canada. Originally an engineer, Michael now works with clients like architects and interior designers, documenting buildings and spaces. When he’s not shooting for commercial clients, he’s traveling to photograph architecture and cityscapes around the world. Michael is always looking for the perfect shot, showcasing some of the most beautiful buildings and skylines in the world.
Michael was born in France, in the heart of old Europe, which has an immense heritage of ancient architecture, yet he has a passion for modern architecture and recently moved to Toronto. We were wondering whether he was terminally bored with medieval castles, so we had to ask him.
Our question lead to a conversation about architectural photography, leaving a full time job to pursue a career in commercial photography, his favorite cities to shoot in, how to handle issues of copyright when photographing famous buildings, and more.

Who doesn’t love New York?
Well, many New Yorkers we’ve spoken to in the past are not always enthusiastic about their city, but one exception is certainly +James Maher.
James is a street, fine art, and portrait photographer who recently released a book titled “The New York Photographer’s Travel Guide,The Best Places to Photograph from a Professional Photographer, Tour Guide, and Lifelong New Yorker” and we asked him about his favorite locations and his best tips for taking the best photos of the city that never sleeps.
That’s not the only book by James that we discussed, the other one being his most recent, “Creative Freelance Marketing: Traditional and Digital Marketing Strategies for Photography, Art, and Creative Businesses.” Of course, we tried to pick his brains with respect to the topic of this other book.
So, whether you’d like to make the best of a photo trip to New York for your own pleasure or you’re in it commercially, this episode has something for everyone. We’re sure you won’t be disappointed.

TTIM 70 – Nicholas Syracuse, the Traveler
Not long ago a friend of ours suggested that we watch a movie called “Traveler” on Amazon Prime Video and so we got to learn about the existence of Nicholas Syracuse.
Nicholas is a young photographer who has traveled extensively across the USA but, unlike many others, not in search of beautiful landscapes and cityscapes or jumping from a flight to a taxi and to a hotel. Rather, he shared the road with the drifters, the hobos, the train hoppers that are so easy to ignore and who are the main subjects of his photographs.
“Traveler” is a documentary, directed by filmmakers Sam Roden and Nick Hartanto, that follows Nicholas in his travels and his encounters, besides giving a glimpse of the uneasy relationship between him and his girlfriend.
Nicholas Syracuse is a restless soul whose approach to travel and photography is very much different from that of our typical guests, but the stories he tells are compelling and moving. We hope you will enjoy listening to them.

Our guest for this week is +Dave Bouskill, one half of the Dave and Deb couple who runs +The Planet D. Dave and Deb have been married for over 20 years now, and when they’re not on the road, they’re based in Toronto, Canada. They started off in the film industry as a gaffer and makeup artist, respectively, but knew there was more to life than 16 hour days working for someone else.
Dave was honoured to win the 2014 and 2015 award for Best Photo Illustration of Travel and 2013 Best Wildlife Photography from the Society of American Travel Writers.
He’s travelled to 100+ countries on all seven continents and has taken on adventures such as cycling down the continent of Africa, Driving from England to Mongolia and Kayaking in Antarctica.
Dave found his passion for photography working on feature films such as X-Men and The Incredible Hulk and has taken his knowledge of lighting movies to create texture, mood and contrast in his stills photography.
