Janice Hinau: Hi, its a hit with me...I love beautiful homes and I love Trees. However, I have to say that a good drainage system is key, especially in very damp climates like here on Kauai for instance...where I live, it rains a lot so molds always an issue. Then, there's the Termites! Not to worry though, if you have a great Designer...they will take those things into consideration, naturally!

Don't know if you follow Detroit area...
No family values, muliple father families, single moms, lots of kids.
Still no respect for life - still killing one another - in the news no less than 4 days a week.

Reality is what I base my life decisions on, so you might consider I'm aware.
To get back on point; I see no cost or practicality advantage to converting shipping containers into homes, except for the possibility of low utility bills.
By the time the energy, work and money is invested one Might have something on par with a small manufactured house, a mobile home, or condominium, but without the space, or the knowledge if it will appreciate, hold, or devalue in the housing market. Young people don't generally have much in the way of free capitol to gamble on a potential trend, so it makes more sense for them to invest in a more financially secure form of housing. There's also the unaddressed issue of building or zoning regulations.
Regardless of how it might be fun to live in this unique form of housing, if one has friends over or holiday meals with family the space and limited practicality is an issue.
