Gerrans Bay
Standing just to the north of Portscatho, admiring the way the setting sun transforms Gull Rock and Nare Head in the distance, not to mention the ragwort around our feet. The Roseland peninsula has to be one of the prettiest and most unspoilt regions of the British Isles.

Hella Point
Along the western end of the south coast, before it turns to meet the north coast, there are some beautifully wild cliffs of granite, with many wild flowers clinging precariously where they can. Here the view is westward towards Hella Point, noted for its pyramid like structure. Past that lies Gwennap Head, after which the coast turns north west up to Land's End.

Penryn River
Penryn was once a much more important port than nearby Falmouth which lies at the mouth of the river that takes its name. Tin and granite were exported from Penryn in medieval times, but its importance waned after supporting the "wrong" side in the Civil War. This view takes in Trefusis Point to the left and the edge of Falmouth docks to the right as the river flows out into the Falmouth estuary which is more commonly known as Carrick Roads.

Gwennap Head
Back to 2015 and a shot of the rugged coast around the southern tip of West Penwith. Sea ivory grows in profusion on the granite rocks here, interspersed with the orange lichen, Xanthoria pareitina.

Mevagissey Bay
From the path above Polstreath beach, looking northwards past Black Head to St Austell Bay beyond. Other than via boat, the access to Polstreath is via 200 steep steps from the coastal path, which is why it is always relatively quiet.

Veryan Bay
As seen from the coastal path between Portholland and Porthluney. Gull Rock looking a little like the dorsal fin of a huge shark swimming off Nare Head. In the distance can be seen the tip of the Roseland Peninsula down to St Anthony's Head, and beyond that, the Lizard.

Carne Beach
A picture of summer fun and relaxation, but not far away is one of many Cornish features associated with the legend of Jan Tregagle, who allegedly sold his soul to the Devil. Tregagle's Hole is the name given to the sea cave to the east of this beach, under Carne Head.

Tregony Clock Tower
This notable landmark was built on Fore Street in the village in 1833. It was constructed using Pentewan stone, which was a locally quarried volcanic rock, containing quartz. The tower and clock were both restored in 1998. Tregony sits by the River Fal and was once a port until the river silted up due to tin and china clay mining activities. Today it is known as the gateway to the Roseland peninsula.
