I think it’s time we move away from a predominantly white, middle class, able-bodied feminist discourse, and I hope this anthology will give a platform to women who continue to be marginalized within the feminist movement. I want to ask: who feels apart of the movement and who feels left out? Why do some women feel that they cannot identify as feminists? What do we want to see changed?”

I'm saving this to finish reading later once I've finished my work stuff. But I figured there are several of you who'd also be interested in reading this piece by Louisa May Alcott inspired by her work as a Civil War nurse.

Today is Ella Fitzgerald's 100th birthday, and I had wanted to write up a post about her and how much she's meant to me -- not just as a musician, but as a kickass young woman who knew what she wanted in life and went out and made it happen.
But I've been busy with other projects and so I'll just remind you all of this great book I reviewed a while back. It's one of my favorite picture books I've read recently, and I think it perfectly captures the cadence of her life.
