| March 16, Thursday - May 18, Thursday | CREMATION: HISTORY AND MODERN PROCESS (LAK Public Relations) 5:00 PM at Green-Wood 500 25th St, Brooklyn, NY 11232 None: Free When cremation was first introduced in the United States in the 1860s, it was obscure and rarely practiced. However, as of 2015, cremation rates surpassed those of burial in this country. On March 16th and May 18th, Green-Wood invites the public to find out a bit more about cremation, how it works and how it all began. Death educator, Amy Cunningham, will present on cremation’s history and its impact on the present and future of funerals. This engaging and sometimes even light-hearted discussion will give attendees a better approach to this often emotional subject. Afterwards, attendees will have the opportunity to visit the crematory with Green-Wood’s Crematory Manager, Gema LaBoccetta, and then chat with Cunningham and other guests at a short reception. Competing teams from universities across the United States will gather at Baruch College’s Mason Hall to battle for the title of top South Asian A cappella team. The profits from this year’s All-American Awaaz will go to Little Kids Rock, a national non-profit that has quickly become the largest free music education program in the USA by bringing free, weekly music lessons to more than 225,000 public school children. ![]() |

No vanity mirrors, judgments, overplayed music, or boring dance steps.. Visuals and video are by award winning film and television director Kevin Arbouet. Choreography is by Monica Kapoor, a dance-fitness instructor based in NYC. Her performing credits include Mamma Mia Broadway, Bombay Dreams, NBC’s Smash, and more. Following the event, participants can nosh and hydrate with a tasting of some of the hottest local brands in the New York City food scene. Food Tank will use the profits from this event to promote efforts in New York City to reduce and/or eliminate food waste.
