Composer Eicca Toppinen is one of the most famous Finnish musicians in the world. His band Apocalyptica and their symphonic heavy metal music has been winning over hearts since 1993. Eicca, who lives in the woods of Sipoo near Helsinki, finds different extremes and their combinations fascinating in his personal life as well.

Finland is a nation of extreme differences. Not only in our seasons and nature, but people as well. To celebrate Finland’s centennial, Visit Finland delved into our nation’s character more vocally than ever before by turning the Finnish genotype into music.

Visit Finland is celebrating Finland’s 100th year of independence with a Christmas Calendar. This is how it works:
Every day a new window can be opened. Behind each window is a question about Finland. Once answered correctly, you can participate in a contest to win a bag full of Finnish design and goodies!

There is a new bag to be won every day for 23 days. On the 24th one can participate to win the main prize: flights for two to Finland during year 2018!

Pia Siljander was awarded for her efforts to promote the organisation of international scientific conferences in Finland. The EUR 5000 award was donated by the Finnish Fair Foundation. Docent Pia Siljander works as a University Lecturer in the Biochemistry Of Health in the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Helsinki.
