Automation & Electronics

Automation & Electronics info:

Automation is a method of controlling machines or equipment through electronic and automatic devices with as little human interference as possible. It has become especially prevalent within the industrial manufacturing field due to rapid innovations in computerized technology. Automated systems were developed as a way to minimize human error and maximize production efficiency, and they can take on many forms. From computer-controlled test equipment to automatically operated household appliances, automation can serve as a substitute for manual control in numerous ways. It has become an important part of both commercial and private life, and its range of applications only continues to grow.

Like automated systems, electronics technology is becoming more advanced and expanding its field of use. Electronic systems largely deal with device applications and electrical power distribution. But despite significant technical progress, electronics still focuses on the same fundamental aspects it encompassed since its beginnings in the nineteenth century: inputs, signal processors, and outputs.

How You Can Use BTU Measurements to Document Energy Efficiency: Performance Verification Proves Savings to Customers and Financiers
BTUs (British thermal units) are a widely-used metric for energy production and in solar HVAC system financing. Outlining the definition, measurement and benefits of BTUs, this paper states that a data logger can help users who need performance verification or device validation for solar water heating appliances and solar air collectors. It...
How to Cut Energy Costs Using a Datalogger: Multi-Value Devices Record, Analyze and Graph Data for Energy Savings
Highlighting how data loggers can help a facilities technician or engineer monitor energy usage as part of an energy audit and to plan for future savings, this paper states that a data logger can show you: where the energy went; which equipment, circuits, and buildings consumed the energy; and when all this usage occurred. Presenting an overview...
Fitting More Capability into the Same Space: How Miniaturization Benefits Every Industry, Not Just Hi-tech Hardware
Focusing on hard drive suspension assemblies, this paper shows how miniature technology has enabled a portable hard disk, the size of a deck of cards, to hold terabytes of data. Illustrating how miniaturization of the head of a hard drive drove the need for adding a flexible circuit (or flexure) to the suspension assembly, it explains step by step...
How to Select the Ideal Portable DAQ System: Measure Temperature, Current/Voltage and More
Examining the key factors to consider when deciding on a portable data acquisition system, this paper evaluates: accuracy and speed, signal conditioning and standalone operation, durability, communication, and the software used. Using Nyquist's Sampling Theorem to calculate data acquisition speed, it states that the user should also check whether...
