OVERVIEW
The TIFF-CBC Diverse Screenwriters Grant will provide $10,000 to a Canadian writer of an outstanding feature film screenplay, supporting them to further develop their project. The Grant is open to experienced screenwriters who are female, Indigenous, belong to visible minorities, or identify with a disability and who also have a writer or director credit on at least one feature film that has been presented at one of the CBC Breaking Barriers Film Fund's list of organized festivals.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Eligible applicants must satisfy all of the following requirements:
  1. Be residents of Canada who are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Be over the age of majority in their province of residence.
  3. Received a writer or director credit on a feature film which has screened in Official Selection at one of the CBC Breaking Barriers Film Fund's list of organized festivals.
  4. Ability to demonstrate ownernship of all underlying rights to their Submission
  5. Identify as a woman, a visible minority, Indigenous, or a person with a disability in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Submissions must be original woks in English, written solely by the Applicant. Adaptations of books, theater or magazine articles are eligible, provided the applicant has secured the necessary legal rights. There is a limit of one submission per applicant. 

In order to be considered for the grant, the Applicant must submit all of the application materials listed below via the online application by Midnight on Monday August 21, 2017

         1. A completed online application form, with digital signature
         2. A completed online submission Release form, with digital signature; and
         3. The project you are submitting for consideration. Submissions must be in the form of a 85-120                    page feature length screenplay in "script format standard". Cover page should include only the                      project title and no other identifying markings.
         4. A logline that encapsulates the story in one line and does not exceed 50 words (the "Synopsis"),

DEADLINE AND ANNOUNCEMENT

Applications must be uploaded via Form Assembly by Midnight on Monday August 21st, 2017. The recipient of the Grant will be announced online at both www.cbc.ca/breakingbarriers/ and www.tiff.net in November of 2017.

SUBMISSION RELEASE






The Submission (including the Application Form, the Submission Release and any other materials linked to, or submitted by you) and Synopsis, if applicable (Collectively the "Application Package") were submitted by you for review and consideration for the CBC-TIFF Diverse Screenwriter's Grant, provided by the Canadian Broadcast Corporation ("CBC") and Toronto International Film Festival Inc. ("TIFF")

You Understand that the execution of this release is necessary before CBC and TIFF will review the Application Package and you represent and agree as follows:

  1. You are the owner and author of the Application Package. You will have the full and exclusive right to submit the Application Package and no other person or corporation has any right, title or interest in the Application Package inconsistent with such right. The Application Package is not defamatory and does not infringe upon or violate the privacy rights, copyrights, trademarks, publicity or other intellectual or proprietary rights of any third party. 
  2. CBC and/or TIFF have not made any promise or representation to you about the Application Package, and had no obligation to use the Application Package in any way. There is no agreement, written or oral, express implied, between you and CBC and/or TIFF concerning the Application Package, other than this release
  3. CBC and TIFF and its representatives will give the Application Package only the consideration that CBC and TIFF in their sole and absolute discretion determine is appropriate. 
  4. CBC and TIFF does not accept any obligation of confidentiality with respect to the Application Package. CBC and TIFF have the right to copy, use and distribute the Application Package for the purpose of its evaluation and review. You have kept a copy of the Application Package. There is no obligation to return the Application Package to you and no Party will be responsible for any loss or damage to the Application Package
  5. CBC and TIFF have already and may in future receive or independently develop materials similar to the Application Package, and shall have the unrestricted right to use these similar materials, and you will have no right or recourse for use of these similar materials.
