Pale Pink

NYX Pale Pink Matte Lipstick ($5.99 for 0.16 oz.) is a brighter, light-medium pink with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had good color coverage that applied without streaking, but the slightly denser, thicker texture seemed prone to sitting in my lip lines, especially within an hour of wear. The lipstick applied without tugging and felt lightly creamy, so a lip liner might help alleviate some of the settling issues with this shade. It wore well for four hours and was lightly drying.

The Matte Lipstick is supposed to be “highly pigmented” and have a “velvety, non-glossy” finish. In general, the formula has semi-opaque to opaque color coverage with a velvety texture that glides on without tugging but doesn’t have a lot of slip, so the lipstick won’t slide around while worn. The formula varied from non-drying to moderately drying with wear times that ranged from four to over six hours (deeper, reddish shades lasted quite long). It has a mint scent and no discernible taste. I noticed that the packaging had a tendency to twist up the lipstick too easily (even barely holding it) and sometimes would twist down as I would apply it directly from the tube.

The Best & Worst of NARS Powermatte Lip Pigments

NARS Powermatte Lip Pigments
NARS Powermatte Lip Pigments

NARS Powermatte Lip Pigments ($26.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is described as “liquefied pigments with infinite matte color saturation for lasting, weightless wear.” It’s supposed to have “full coverage in one swipe” that “dries down instantly” for “smudge-resistant, carefree wear.” The formula has a very fluid consistency that is thin, smooth, but not at all watery, and the majority of shades were nearly opaque or opaque in a single layer.

The dry down started quickly but was forgiving as I maneuvered around the edges of the lips but remained a bit tacky when I pressed my lips together for over a half hour later, though as long as I did not press my lips together until five minutes post-application, the color did not lift. I have found the wear to be comfortable so far–non-drying–but not the longest-wearing nor the most budge-proof in liquid lipstick, as just sipping water, tea, or coffee caused color to transfer onto my cups.

There was plenty of coverage, so it still lasted through drinking but did start to break down noticeably during a meal. Even just touching the color after a half hour of wearing it yielded color on my fingertips. The formula had a soft, vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

01

We'll See is medium brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had a silky, smooth texture that wasn't too powdery or too firm in the pan, which made it easy to work with as it blended out beautifully but also adhered with true, opaque coverage in a single layer.
