Two Easy (and Free!) Ways to Spread the Word About Your Book

By far the most common complaint I hear from authors, especially those who go the indie route, is, "I have no clue about marketing!" A close second is, "I have no money to spend on marketing!"Here are two things you can do that won't cost you more than time and effort:1.    Reach out to book clubs and offer to attend their meetings (or call in) if they select your bookA great way to find book clubs is to create a free account on meetup.com. Using keywords, you can search for appropriate groups…See More

Scouting locations for book launch parties

Last August I met up with a friend to visit a store I wanted to describe for a scene in the novel I was writing at the time. It was dreadfully hot that day, so after I'd finished my research we made a beeline for a quiet (and air conditioned!) pub on a random side street in Manhattan. After we ordered our drinks I looked around and thought to myself, This would be a great spot to have a book launch party. I didn't even know what the place was called, and it would be months and months before I…See More

When to Pull the Plug on Your Book

Last spring I did something I never thought I'd do: I pulled the plug on a novel I'd been working on for more than a year. It was sad and painful and caused me a great deal of stress to make that decision, but you know what? I should have done it a lot earlier for two reasons:1.    It wasn't an interesting storyIf I've learned anything about writing novels, it's that you have to have an interesting story to tell. In my case I'd just finished a previous novel and put too much pressure on myself…See More

Profile Information

Who I am:
The story of how I became an author is a little crazy. I used to work in high-tech PR but hated it, so I quit and ended up playing semi-pro soccer in Argentina for a year. While I was down there I decided to write a novel, which was something I'd always dreamed of doing. Fast forward a few years and a LOT of perseverance to land a publishing contract, and I'm now the best-selling author of the Waverly Bryson series (Perfect on Paper, It's a Waverly Life, Honey on Your Mind, and Chocolate for Two, which garnered a starred review in Publishers Weekly), plus Katwalk, Wait for the Rain, and 2015 International Book Award winner Cassidy Lane. I also provide consulting services to aspiring and/or published authors. And yes, I still play a lot of soccer!
Connect with me online! My site, blog, or Twitter handle are:

Books I've written, anthologies I've contributed to, and any scripts or plays I've authored:
The Waverly Bryson series (Perfect on Paper, It's a Waverly Life, Honey on Your Mind, and Chocolate for Two), as well as Cassidy Lane, Katwalk and Wait for the Rain.
Media outlets that I currently write for:
I'm a paid blogger for CreateSpace -- I began as a self-published author but got picked up by Amazon Publishing after a year of doing a lot of creative marketing for my first novel, so I share what I've learned about book marketing and about writing in general.
My writing is:
Fiction
Services I offer to other writers:
On my website I have two on-demand webinars for sale:

1) How to get published: learn the secrets to getting your book into print...and mistakes to avoid along the way

2) How to market a book: smart, creative advice for getting the word to the right ears
