The passage and signing of marriage equality in New Hampshire was yet another exciting victory for the LGBT community and advocates across the country. With the realization of full marriage equality now in 6 states, the movement is gaining momentum and being put in the national spotlight. While we are still waiting and hoping that the New York State Senate will kick into gear and pass Governor Paterson's bill, there are a number of other reasons to celebrate!
At the end of May, the Nevada State Legislature overrode the Governor's veto of legislation that would allow for domestic partnership benefits. And earlier that month, Washington Governor, Chris Gregoire, signed Domestic Partnership Expansion bill into law, making a total of 5 states and the District of Columbia where same-sex couples are given state-level spousal rights!
And, in another bit of exciting news, President Obama issued a proclamation that had not been made since President Clinton did so in 2000, declaring June LGBT Pride Month (Secretary Clinton and the DNC also released statements). The month of June also brings the renowned DC Capital Pride celebration, and this year the RAC will be marching in the Parade! On Saturday, June 13th the RAC will be joining over 100 local organizations and celebrities to represent the Reform Movement's voice in this fun, celebratory event for LGBT rights, equality, culture & pride.
