Most people don't have a good idea what the consequences of a hurt economy are. It's too abstract a formulation. If they formulated it as "even if it comes with a 10% chance of you becoming unemployed for a couple of years", I think the results would be different.

unfortunately there are hawks in power on both sides that think escalating the tension further is a good idea.

This is literally fake news, Merkel didn't say that she considers the videos "strong evidence". It's a mistranslation. She used a unusual german phrase that means something like "appears to be true" but is explicitly less confident than actual proof. When she said that she called for a peaceful solution which is missing from the article.

Using such a phrase her way to weasel out of the conflict and it's safe to assume that she may still turn out to not oppose the American aggression against Iran but that's not because she falls for the scam, she rather think that being loyal is more important.

"Hohe Evidenzien" is nowhere close to "appears to be true". Whether you like it or not, the translation "strong evidence" is accurate.

Now the north will quiet down for a few months. This seems to happen every year.

No, that hasn't happened for a long time. The situation this year is particularly severe.

Quoting the article

The rice donation is the first time the South has provided food aid to the North since 2010, when it provided 5,000 tons of rice.

I guarantee most of it won’t go to the people.

Where else would it go?
