Nov. 1st was a big day for this sub. Being featured as a trending subreddit brought a lot of new readers here and a bunch of new content (I finally got a break!). I'm really happy with this community right now and I'd like to see everyone else enjoy it too.
Edit: Our latest milestone was being featured as Subreddit of the Day on November 26th, bringing hundreds of new readers! Welcome to all of you. :)
Posting new content isn't necessary for participating, but it helps the subreddit thrive. If you want to post, check out the rules in the sidebar first. There aren't many.
You can post any media you want of cats being confused, startled, or intrigued by technology. If a cat is doing something with technology and you think it's funny or cool, it's probably a good post.
The exception to this is cats being tormented or hurt: this is NOT OK. If the cat appears to be hurt or in extreme distress, you should not post it. In the same vein, please don't make jokes about animal abuse. It is a subject that should be taken seriously.
Reposts and x-posts are ok! If you find something recent from another subreddit, you can attribute this in the title, e.g. (found in r/catgifs) or (x-post r/startledcats). A repost of something that has already been in this subreddit is also ok, but it's better to wait a while before recycling content.
Cats "winning" at technology is ok too. For example, this gif is a good post.
The title of your post can include "vs" but it doesn't have to. If the content is appropriate for the subreddit, it doesn't have to include "versus" or "vs" in the title.
While you're at it, check out the other subreddits linked in the sidebar.
Thank you for subscribing, and enjoy your stay!
If you're reading this, you've probably done nothing wrong. But /r/catsvstechnology has seen a recent surge in spam posts: posts that are unrelated to Cats vs. Technology, or posts from content-recycling accounts or pages. Spam is never appropriate for this subreddit.
If you see spam, report it.
Signs that something is spam:
It's only vaguely related to the subreddit.
The content has clearly been rehosted and modified. For example, a video of a looping gif.
The title is nonsense. This doesn't make something spam, but a real poster would probably write something that makes sense.
Reposts don't count as spam, and reposts are ok if they aren't recent. Also, a post from someone posting their own content from another site isn't necessarily spam, unless they are posting indiscriminately.
Thank you everyone for contributing and keeping this community alive. Your reports are heard, your votes make a difference, your posts make us laugh and your comments make us smile. Thank you for being here.
