This figure is the inspiration behind Building Barriers? Liberty and Justice for All, an exhibit at the 1,461 QCC Student Gallery and Resource Center curated by Gallery and Museum Studies students Abraham Centeno and Eddie Ruiz.

QPAC and the Astoria Symphony Orchestra Partner to Present American Cinema’s Greatest Hits in Lights, Camera, Music! The Queensborough Performing Arts Center (QPAC), together with the renowned Astoria Symphony Orchestra, will celebrate iconic music composed for the big screen with live stage performances in Lights, Camera, Music! at QPAC on May 28, 2017 at 3:00pm.

Distinguished Honorees Exemplify The Meaning Of Giving Back At Queensborough Community College’s 2017 Partners For Progress Gala Queensborough student speakers Nuria Laroussi, Razieh Arabi and Haris Khan were among many outstanding students present at Queensborough’s 2017 Partners for Progress Gala, which was held last week at Terrace-on-the Park in Flushing Meadows Park, Queens. Approximately 500 guests, including nearly 150 faculty and staff, convened for the event, including corporate, community and business leaders, alumni, faculty, staff, students, retirees, friends and legislators.PERFORMING ARTS

Queensborough’s Mock Trial Team Competed in American Mock Trial Association’s Baltimore Regional Tournament, Held at University Of Maryland Law School Competing in the American Mock Trial Association (“AMTA”) Baltimore Regional Tournament held at the University of Maryland Law School in Baltimore Maryland and hosted by the University of Maryland over the weekend of February 18-19th, the Queensborough Community College Mock Trial Team faced strong opposition from mock trial teams from the University of Maryland, Bucknell University, Washington Adventist University and Stockton University.

Accomplished Guitarist and Music Educator Ernie Jackson on the Musical Genius of Composer Justin Holland Justin Holland (1819-1887) was an influential classical guitarist, educator and humanitarian. Although born to free Black parents in Virginia, few who bought his music knew he was African American. Just prior to the Civil War, Holland worked alongside abolitionists such as Frederick Douglass and is known to have worked with the Underground Railroad. Holland spent much of his life advancing the causes of African Americans, and being he was an educator himself, adopted the principle that education was the best method to overcoming racial barriers.

Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Awards Queensborough the Citizen Artist Award. Queensborough Community College has received the Citizen Artist Award for anOTHER, a collaborative piece presented at the Region II Festival 49 of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) at Montclair University in January. The Citizen Artist Award recognized Queensborough for placing an urgent national conversation into the heart of a student-led theatrical production.

Engineering Technology Students are Recipients of 2017 Phi Theta Kappa All New York Team Award Queensborough students Myo Thu Ya Aung and Tao Hong, who will each graduate this spring with an A.S. degree in Engineering Technology, were both selected to receive the 2017 Phi Theta Kappa Association of New York Scholarship award in the amount of $1000.

A Trifecta of Triumphs for Queensborough’s Student Entrepreneurs at the CUNY & Capital One Community College Innovation Challenge Semi-FinalsQueensborough’s students wowed judges with their business acumen at the CUNY & Capital One Community College Innovation Challenge (CCIC) Semi-Finals held at the CUNY Graduate Center on January 11. A total of five Queensborough students, including one team of three, each received a $500 seed grant and IPad and will advance to the final phase of the challenge in April for an additional sum of money to start their businesses.
