In Western culture, black is often a representation of death; it is a colour of mourning, worn to funerals to commemorate and universalise loss. This means that, in some contexts, black within design can represent sadness or respect. In Far Eastern cultures, such as in the customs of China, black is a colour of stability and perseverance, representing the son that will continue a family's bloodline. In Middle Eastern culture, black is even seen as a colour that represents rebirth.
