We're excited to announce our first major event this semester: the NYU Chinese New Year celebration. With local culinary delights from RASA and Chinatown, and traditional Yusheng prepared, it will be a wonderful opportunity to bond with fellow Singaporeans while welcoming the coming of the new year. To create a festive mood, we will also be offering Chinese New Year goodies to members who are most enthusiastically dressed in traditional attire. We will also be continuing our trivia game that will feature fun facts about the history of Chinese New Year, as well as current events back home in Singapore. Join us at NYU KC914 from 7pm to 10pm!
We are planning to hold a our annual Chinese New Year dinner at Lee On restaurant in Edinburgh, UK. This will be the 2nd time we are running this event at the same restaurant and location. We shall be doing so because of the large reception, and well-pleased response we received from last year's occurrence of event.
We plan to host a Chinese New Year dinner, especially since we are the Singaporean community for Singaporeans in Edinburgh that would be unable to go back home to their families / country to enjoy the festivities of Chinese New Year back home in Singapore. Missing out on Reunion dinner, receiving Angpaos, paying respects to our relatives and grandparents. These are things that we have sacrificed while studying overseas. Thus, we as the Edinburgh University Singapore Society, plan to have a joyous occasion of Chinese food with the company that we have made over the year to spend this time with.
Many overseas and non-Singaporean students and professionals alike have showed interest and joined in this similar event, last year. People from all walks of life, from Hong Kong, China or Macau that are also unable to go back to their countries to celebrate Chinese New Year, feel this event can serve as a substitute.
We have spoken to the restaurant owners, as per last year, and they can only give us the same price as they did last year. We shall speak to them once again to see if we can lower costs once again since we are planning to host this regularly year by year, and we have good ties with the restaurant owner.
Last year, this event sold out very quickly on a first-come-first-serve basis and many people were disappointed. Thus, we believe we can have maximum capacity and people will be able to cover the cost of the funds required for this project.
