The short version:
I earn a living as a blogger by hosting ads on this site, using affiliate links to recommended products, selling my own products, and creating content for other publisher sites.

This is something I never thought I’d be able to say: I earn my living as a blogger.
I’ve been a DIY enthusiast all my life…decades before the term DIY was even coined. As a young girl, I painted my bedroom walls yellow and picked out all the decor myself. As a young bride, I painstakingly decorated our first home one room at a time. Over the years, I sewed Halloween costumes, curtains, pillow covers, wall hangings, and the list goes on. When I saw a shelter blog online for the first time, my immediate reaction was “I can do that.” A few weeks later, On Sutton Place was born.
Fast forward six years to where I am now. A member of a wonderful, close-knit community of other creative bloggers, a legitimate writer and photographer, and a self-employed empty nester.
SO HOW DO YOU EARN A LIVING AS A BLOGGER?
The possibilities really are endless but this is how I do it:
1. Ads
Advertisements on this blog. The main ads you see here are Google Adsense ads. I occasionally also place ads from other sources as well. Either way, it’s very clear that they are ads. About a year ago I decided to turn off the ads inside my posts just after they are published. This allows my email subscribers to read my posts with being annoyed or interrupted by ads. After about a week, I turn the ads back on. If you would like to read On Sutton Place ad-free, just click the image below.
2. Affiliate links
I post a lot of DIY tutorials and show products I recommend by linking to those items on affiliate sites. These links are a helpful way to show which products I am talking about so you know what to look for no matter where you shop.
Here is my official disclosure statement:
Ann Drake/On Sutton Place is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and rewardStyle, which are affiliate advertising programs designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising (at no additional cost to you) and linking to Amazon.com and other shops/sites.
All this really means is that if you click on a product link in one of my posts, and purchase something, I will earn a very small commission.

3. Creating Content on Other Sites
One example are my posts on eBay where I am contracted as a freelance blogger. I link to these posts from On Sutton Place because they are simply an extension of what I do here: which is sharing creative, budget-friendly home and garden ideas I love.
4. Printables
I am just a beginner where this venture is concerned but my first offer of a set of Floral Alphabet Printables was kindly received. I have since then designed more seasonal sets of alphabet printables. To see them all, just click HERE.
5. Society6
I have a line of products on Society6.com. I create the artwork and S6 produces and ships the products. Your support of these endeavors is greatly appreciated!
6. Sponsored Posts
I rarely receive offers of this sort. Like almost never. I’m not exactly sure why some bloggers have brands knocking on their doors all the time and I do not…but it’s OK with me. If the opportunity presents itself, this is my vow: That I will only write about products I use and love…and that all opinions are honest and my own. (I also insist there is a giveaway for my readers!)
As you can see, there are multiple income streams. Very few bloggers can earn a good living from their blogs alone. The wonderful thing about blogging is that the opportunities really are endless if you look for them and think a little bit outside the box.
