Molecular structure of a receptor related to anti-platelet therapy revealed
Researchers at OHSU have revealed the molecular architecture of a poorly studied protein for the first time. The P2X1 receptor plays a role in platelet activation, a process that contributes to hardening of the arteries, the leading cause of death from heart disease in the U.S. OHSU physician-scientist Steven Mansoor, M.D., Ph.D., and lead author and graduate student Adam Oken's findings were published in Nature Communications.
