Your comfort and safety are top priority
The Department of Anesthesiology offers expertise for a wide range of surgeries. With highly experienced anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), we offer the very best care before, during and after your procedure.

Overview

Anesthesia is tailored to every patient’s individual needs for optimal comfort and safety during operations and procedures. Our team monitors and supports all vital functions during and after surgery. During recovery, we’re here to provide care and advanced pain relief as needed.

What sets us apart

Our anesthesiology services include:

  • World-class anesthesiologists: Experienced anesthesiology physicians tailor each phase of surgical preparation and treatment to the needs of the individual patient.
  • Talented CRNA team: Advanced practice nurses work with our anesthesiologists and are responsible for administering anesthesia and monitoring patients during surgeries and other medical procedures.
  • Proper anesthesia for individual needs: The anesthesiologists use several types of medications to achieve the proper level of sedation and/or pain relief. We employ cutting-edge anesthesia techniques including regional nerve blocks, as well as general and local anesthetics.

Education & training

The Department of Anesthesiology aims to promote an environment of academic excellence, providing training and oversight to the anesthesia residency program and the medical students of the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, as well as to the nurse anesthesia residents from Hofstra/Northwell’s Graduate Program in Nurse Anesthesia.

Clinical expertise

All members of the anesthesia care team have extensive training and experience:

  • Anesthesiologists complete four years of residency training in anesthesiology after medical school and may go on to complete additional fellowship training in subspecialty disciplines such as cardiac anesthesia, pediatric anesthesia, obstetrics, pain management, regional anesthesia and critical care.
  • CRNAs have a master’s or doctoral degree in nursing, critical care nursing experience and three years of training in anesthesiology.

Anesthetics and nerve blockers at the surgery site mean less narcotics—and a much faster recovery.
