PITTSBURGH -- Sidney Crosby and Phil Kessel each scored twice to help the Pittsburgh Penguins defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-2 at PPG Paints Arena on Saturday.
Crosby, who has three goals in his past two games, scored on two different 5-on-3s, one in the first period and another in the third. Kessel scored once in the first period and again in the second.

The Vegas Golden Knights became the fastest NHL team to 15 wins in its inaugural season with a 4-2 victory against the Arizona Coyotes at Gila River Arena on Saturday.
Tomas Nosek, William Karlsson and Erik Haula scored in a span of 1:42 during the second period for Vegas (15-6-1), which has a five-game winning streak for the second time this season. Jonathan Marchessault scored an empty-net goal at 19:58 of the third period.

The minutes of the first NHL Board of Governors meeting, which concluded 100 years ago Sunday in Montreal, note that it was called "to ascertain if some steps could not be taken to perpetuate the game of hockey." But the men who announced the formation of the new league couldn't have dreamed what it would become a century later.
Though the NHL we know today began play on Dec. 19, 1917, the two first-night games in the League's history wouldn't have taken place without a series of meetings and backroom maneuvers that saw it emerge from the ashes of the National Hockey Association.

It was the third win in a row for the Islanders (14-7-2) and their sixth in seven games. They allowed fewer than three goals for the fifth time in 23 games this season.

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Blues scored three power-play goals and one shorthanded in a 6-3 win against the Minnesota Wild at Scottrade Center on Saturday.
It's the first time since Oct. 25 that the Blues scored multiple power-play goals. They were 3-for-8 against the Wild after going 5-for-38 the previous 12 games.

BOSTON -- The call would go out as soon as John Grzelcyk knew there was a chance the ice would be available. Bring Matt over, he would say. TD Garden, his office, wasn't far from their Charlestown home, just a mile or two. His son could be ready on a moment's notice.
"If the [Boston] Bruins played at home and they would go away, sometimes they'd leave it up for a few hours," Matt Grzelcyk said on Friday, after the Bruins beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3. "My dad would call my mom to bring me right over. I always had my bags packed."
