Easy Ponte Summer Separates
Hi there! Is it hot where you are? Because it sure is hot here! July is most definitely the least forgiving summer month in terms of the heat and humidity here in coastal Texas. And, no coincidence, it also happens to be the summer month when I have the least interest in clothes of any sort! Even just looking at the prettiest of sundresses all I can think is “sweaty back”. It’s no surprise that my sewjo also takes a nosedive during the summer doldrums as well. When wearing clothes turns into an unpleasant reality, making clothes loses a bit of [...]
A hood, some plaid and loud red pants
Well hello there everyone, I’m Tasha and this is my first post for the Mood Sewing Network. I’m so glad to be here! My first project is actually a whole outfit: that kind of thing when the sewing gears start turning and you tell yourself “Oh yes, that would be a good idea”, followed by “Yes, definitely a great idea!” and finally, “Yes, yes, yes I must make this happen!” I sew with a lot of vintage patterns, and this outfit was no exception. The red pants are actually the third pair of pants in a journey with a pattern. Ever [...]
Eloise at the Plaza Dress
With an unapologetic youthfulness straight out of an “Eloise at the Plaza” book, add this adorable Pink and Blue Printed Stretch Cotton Sateen to your collection! Hand drawn flowers, swirled vines and hearts move in a kaleidoscopic fashion over a light blue background. A crisp hand is paired with a stiff drape for perfectly tailored pieces. Its stretch through the weft ensures the perfect fit for bodycon pieces as well! Make crop tops, shorts and shift dresses for an adorable spring/summer look. Who can resist a description like this?? I ordered the fabric with pants in mind since cotton sateen [...]
Rayon Summer Sundress
Good morning, everyone! I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but I’m just gonna come out and say it – it is HOT right now, y’all! Summer is in full force down here in Tennessee, and showing no signs of letting up – if anything, August will be even hotter. Those 90+ degree days might be reasonably bearable if humidity wasn’t a factor, but it is – and we be sticky now. Don’t get me wrong – I don’t mind the heat, and I definitely prefer it to the cold. But in order to beat the heat, you [...]
Viscose For Summer Heat!
This is one of those fabrics that has to be experienced in real life, the lens doesn’t do it justice! To come close to the true colors in this Italian viscose jersey, I had to bump up the saturation. And now I have “Pump Up the Volume” in my head. My apologies if you do, too. Let me change that ear worm with the story of this garment’s first outing! Rob & I snapped these photos in the golden hour, on our way to Lincoln Center’s opening night of #LCOutOfDoors. It’s a wonderful, free program offered every summer, with nights [...]
Gingham Culottes for the Summer Ends
Pinterest was the inspiration for these gingham culottes and I am so happy I took a look for an idea. I really love the look of these and will be so fun for the dog days of summer. Let me restate that as the dog days of summer mean the hot, sultry days of summer and as cute as these culottes are, the are not cool. So my gingham culottes are perfect for the air conditioning while the hot summer is on the outside! I love this Theory Black and White Gingham Stretch Cotton Twill but I am [...]
Cut-Out Sleeve Maternity Maxi Dress
Hello everyone! My summer of maternity sewing continues at full steam, my closet steadily filling with stretchy, bump-friendly clothes. Most of these garments are pretty casual, summer tops and floaty tent dresses, but one special dress also made its way into my plans. Earlier this month, one of my best friends got married in an evening garden ceremony, saying her vows amongst sunflowers and lush bushes of roses. There was dancing and fantastic food and a moonlit stone villa in the background. How could I not make a fancy dress for such an occassion? You can’t wear any old thing [...]
Striped Linen Men’s Shirt with Liberty of London Contrast
Is there any more comfortable, cool summer fabric than linen? I purchased this candy-striped red and white lightweight linen last year and this summer decided to use it to make a casual short-sleeve shirt. (You can find similar lightweight (i.e, shirt-weight) linen stripes at Mood online here.) I made my shirt using vintage Seventies Vogue pattern 9617. I made just a few changes to the pattern, choosing to add two pockets instead of one, and shortening the length by roughly 1″ — a standard alteration I make to most commercial shirt patterns. I chose to decorate both the inside pocket [...]
Blast from the Past – Paisley Sateen Shirting – McCall 7575
Sometimes, the “ole school” in me comes shining through. Even in my fabric picking. Remember, way back in January when I came to New York to visit with my sewing friends. Our first stop on our fabric shopping spree was at Mood. I bought two yards of this gorgeous paisley print sateen, and I knew exactly what I was going to make. I was seriously, hoping that it was available at the online store and it is. Appropriately named: Pacific Green Paisley Printed on Corded Cotton Sateen. It has a little stretch to it with a soft hand. This [...]
