I was a bit disappointed in Labyrinth. Which surprises me because I can usually devour historical fiction with transporting delight. Mosse certainly presented an interesting plot and she followed through with mostly accurate (to my limited knowledge) medieval details concerning siege warfare, religious upheaval, etc. I just couldn't grab onto her characters or the situations they found themselves in.

I'd compare most crucial developments in the novel to the beading of raindrops on a windshield. They have an effect but they don't penetrate. Instead they just skitter and slide all over the place until they peter out.

In the end I'd say it was a book on the verge of interesting but lacking the vividness that would have kicked it over the hump and breathed some life and spark into its characters. (

"Labyrinth" was a fast-paced engrossing read. I loved the parallel narratives of medieval Alais and modern day Alice, although I did find Alaïs' story the more interesting of the two. It was obvious that the author had done her research as she managed to bring life in the 1200s to life and combined it with adventure and the Holy Grail legend. A wonderful read. (

(.. .) Kate Mosse réussit son coup. A défaut de faire date - elle n'est quand même pas la première à mettre en scène des femmes ! -, son talent de conteuse fait mouche. Et peut séduire cet été.
