Guide to Library Call Numbers
Library of Congress Classification System
Most items in the JMU Libraries are cataloged according to the Library of Congress (LC)
classification system, using a combination of numbers and letters in a set order. The letters at the
beginning of each call number indicate subject area. The main categories in LC are:
