5 Budget-Friendly Ways to Totally Transform a Kitchen

Happy New Year! I’m Rita Joy from Harbour Breeze Home, and I’m starting off a fresh new year by talking kitchens. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I have visions of my dream kitchen ~ the layout, white marbly countertops, and laughter around a giant island. It’s delightful that dreaming doesn’t cost a cent. ‘Cause in […]

Beachy Low Maintenance Backyard Fire Pit Tutorial

Beachy Low Maintenance Backyard Fire Pit Tutorial

First thing I thought of first was function: I hated having to move all of our yard furniture every time we mowed so I wanted something our furniture could sit on. Second thing was safety, I wanted a fire pit we didn’t have to worry about still smoldering a little bit when we went to bed. Also, I didn’t want a fire pit that (if not used) would fill full of grass and weeds. Everything pointed to the free pile of sand we had in our backyard, we made ourselves a beachy fire pit!

I decided to tackle my teen daughter’s bedroom and redo it into a space she would love to hang out in and have friends over. Fun Upcycled Denim Draft Stopper (Draught Excluder)

Like many old houses that cling on to their original fixtures the wind howls through the gaps in the old doors and the windows rattle. To minimize the draughts, I make my own DIY draught excluders for both my doors and windows. They are made by upcycling old jeans. I also added a bit of humour to them by stenciling on a pun or two.

Mason Jar Solar Lights for a Back Deck

October 8, 2016 by Community Submitted Ideas Leave a Comment

Mason Jar Solar Lights for a Back Deck

I had a bit of a problem with the mason jar solar lights tutorials I’ve seen online. Every tutorial I’ve read had you cut a square out of the lid and attach the solar light to the lid. This always bothered me, it seemed like then wouldn’t the jar fill with water and become all nastiness? So, I got to work on my own design. Why not flip the jars over and glue the top of the light to the bottom of the jar instead?

Can't wait to see how this DIY project turns out! The cottage renovations and ideas planned for this A-frame home include a new front porch with stone pillars and covered roof as well as a sunroom.
