Threlkeld business calls for railway path row to end

A community cafe has warned that any delays to the reopening of the Keswick to Threlkeld path will badly hit their business.

The Threlkeld community coffee shop ploughs its profits back into the local village hall for the benefit of residents. But ever since the former railway path has been closed, profits have gone down by three quarters.

Currently there's a row over how best to resurface the path, with protesters demanding dramatic changes.

"In terms of the money we can give to the community, the last year that the railway line was fully open we gave the community just over 21 thousand pounds. The year after it closed we made a loss we didn't give them any money. We've worked hard to rebuild the business and we gave them 5 thousand pounds last year."
