Storyline

Forrest Gump is a simple man with a low I.Q. but good intentions. He is running through childhood with his best and only friend Jenny. His 'mama' teaches him the ways of life and leaves him to choose his destiny. Forrest joins the army for service in Vietnam, finding new friends called Dan and Bubba, he wins medals, creates a famous shrimp fishing fleet, inspires people to jog, starts a ping-pong craze, creates the smiley, writes bumper stickers and songs, donates to people and meets the president several times. However, this is all irrelevant to Forrest who can only think of his childhood sweetheart Jenny Curran, who has messed up her life. Although in the end all he wants to prove is that anyone can love anyone. Written by aliw135

Trivia

To create the effect of Forrest carrying Bubba away from a napalm attack, stunt actors were initially used for compositing purposes. Then, Tom Hanks and Mykelti Williamson were filmed, with Williamson supported by a cable wire as Hanks ran with him. The explosion was then filmed, and the actors were digitally added to appear just in front of the explosions. The jet fighters and napalm canisters were also added by CGI. See more »

Goofs

Forrest claims his famous run back and forth across the country took three years and two months. However, when he begins the run, a television article shows former President Jimmy Carter collapsing from heat exhaustion, which took place on October 1, 1979. Forrest stops the run on receiving a letter from Jenny; a scene showing the attempted assassination of former President Ronald Reagan is on a television screen. This assassination attempt happened March 30, 1981. This would put the total duration of Forrest's run at one year and six months. See more »

Forrest, Forrest Gump.. The greatest.
6 September 2015 | by See all my reviews

There is an unfortunate time when you watch this film, its not the film thats the problem its my highly evident fear of the next few films I watch just seeming so bad. For simply not being this. Its everything. Its a romantic-comedy-tragedy-life-story-historical-personal- uplifting-war story. Every time I watch it I go on an emotional journey with the characters that are quickly built up in the world around Forrest. There is not much more I can say about this film that will say how much i like it, apart from award it the accolade that is; My favourite film. Over time the film stands up, the performances seem to get better knowing how Hanks has gone on to be a great actor. His supporting cast do a great job of making the world of the film feel believable.
