Trivia

While, strictly speaking, not the same story, the concept of Gomer Pyle: USMC (1964) was a very close copy of the situation depicted in this film. Although No Time for Sergeants was set in the Air Force, Gomer Pyle was set in the Marines, and of course, Gomer Pyle was a spin off from The Andy Griffith Show (1960). Interestingly, Pyle premiered in 1964, the same year as the television series of No Time for Sergeants (1964). While the Sergeants television series was a major flop, canceled before the end of the first season, Pyle was a major hit, running from 1964-1969. See more »

During a ceremony to Will Stockdale and Benjamin Whitledge, a radio announcer mentions Operation Prometheus, (that Will Stockdale jumped out of and pulled Ben Whitledge out with him, to parachute to the ground) mentions privates Stockdale and Whitledge's names. Stockdale and Whitledge (in unison) each ask saying their last-name Stockdale and Whitledge? The radio announcer answers back "Yes, Stockdale and Whitledge." See more »

Is still the best movie ever to tinkle your insides.
23 June 2000 | by (Tupelo, MS) – See all my reviews

I first watched this movie when I was ten years old. I laughed and laughed and laughed. It still makes me laugh after all these years. When Andy, or Will as he was called in the movie, hit that button in the latrine and all them toilet seats flew up at once to salute the general I thought my dad was going to have a stroke he laughed so hard. My father was a private in the airforce and he related to this movie as he was in the airforce during the early 1950's. I lost my father on July 28th, 1999, and my mom in January 2000, but I have very fond happy memories of laughing with my mom & dad while watching this movie. Those memories are priceless. Thank you for those wonderful memories.
