<h2>Understanding A/B Tests in Marketing</h2>
<p>A/B testing (also known as bucket tests or split-run testing) is a way to test changes to a single variable in your email marketing to see which is more effective.</p>
<p>A/B testing has three major components:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>A test audience randomly split into two groups</strong>. The randomness is important, as manually picking them could result in two groups that are already biased by your selection.</li>
<li><strong>Changing a single variable in the version you’re sending out.</strong> While you can change multiple sections, changing a single part (such as the subject line or CTA) allows you to better see what exactly influenced their behavior.</li>

<p>Working with <a href="https://feeds.feedblitz.com/~/t/0/0/feedblitz/~https://www.feedblitz.com/4-tags-help-send-better-emails/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tagging</a> and segmentation allows you to shape the audience of your emails, offering a way to send targeted content to your subscribers with maximum benefits.</p>
<p>To do this effectively, you want to split your mailing lists into subsets characterized by a certain quality. For example, you could create subsets of every subscriber who:</p>
<ul>
<li>Finished a specific funnel sequence.</li>
<li>Clicked a link in one of your emails.</li>
<li>Attended a previous event.</li>
</ul>
<p>There&#8217;s a lot of room for customization when it comes to creating smaller bundles of your email subscribers. And although extremely beneficial, creating these subsets of subscribers hasn&#8217;t always been easy.</p>
<p>Formerly a multi-step process which included many tedious tasks, the idea of sending targeted mailings in this way was often left to the big brands and large-scale email marketing teams.</p>
<p>However, times have changed, cutting this process in half &#8211; and largely automating it &#8211; with FeedBlitz <a href="https://feeds.feedblitz.com/~/t/0/0/feedblitz/~https://feedblitz.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/43000056316-what-are-groups-" target="_blank" rel="noopener">groups</a>. Now it&#8217;s easier than ever to create these subsets of subscribers, opening the door for higher quality email content, better open rates, increased engagement and more.</p>
<h2>What are groups?</h2>
<p><a href="https://feeds.feedblitz.com/~/t/0/0/feedblitz/~https://feedblitz.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/43000056316-what-are-groups-" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Groups</a> are a static list of email addresses in your account. You can&#8217;t mail to groups directly, but you can use them to organize your subscribers and shape your mailings to create targeted email.</p>
<p>Sending a mailing to your email list you can choose to mail to the entire list, or choose to shape the audience by applying a group to the list. The mailing will then only be sent to the list members who either are in the group or who are not in the group based on the setting chosen in the campaign editor.</p>
<p>Using one of our examples above, if you have a group of email subscribers who have clicked a link in one of your previous emails &#8211; let&#8217;s say it&#8217;s a link to find out more information about an upcoming product launch &#8211; you can use this group to send a targeted follow-up email with more information about the product, an exclusive preview, or VIP access to purchase.</p>
<p>As you know this group of subscribers is already interested, they are more likely to open, engage, and purchase your new product.</p>

<p>There are many, many ways to work with groups when it comes to organizing your subscribers and applying them to your email campaigns. To get started, we suggest picking a few of the methods mentioned below.</p>

<li><b>Target and shape your mailings with groups. </b>The term &#8211; <a href="https://feeds.feedblitz.com/~/t/0/0/feedblitz/~https://feedblitz.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/43000476472-using-groups-to-shape-your-mailings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shape your mailings </a>&#8211; relates to the audience receiving your email. While it&#8217;s easy to send a campaign to a particular mailing list; or to add additional mailing lists to your campaign, you can use groups to target the exact audience, depending on what email addresses are either included or not included in a group.

<p>Depending on the criteria that create your groups, you can narrow down your audience by details such as subscriber activity, interest, zip code, and more.</p>
<p>This is the quickest method to send an email to subscribers all tagged with the same information. A group is also how you would <a href="https://feeds.feedblitz.com/~/t/0/0/feedblitz/~https://feedblitz.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/43000056297-using-groups-as-suppression-lists" target="_blank" rel="noopener">apply a suppression list</a> to your mailing if working with an affiliate.</li>
<li><b>Using groups to boost email automation. </b>Groups offer an excellent way to <a href="https://feeds.feedblitz.com/~/t/0/0/feedblitz/~https://feedblitz.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/43000476949-boosting-email-automation-with-groups" target="_blank" rel="noopener">boost your email automation</a> by allowing you to automatically add subscribers to designated groups, based on actions taken within a funnel campaign.<b></b>

<h2>3: Target Content by Subscription Source</h2>

<p>This way you&#8217;ll be able to select your audience, create your content, and adjust the template, getting everything in place and ready, then hit review and attach any file(s) you&#8217;d like before hitting send or schedule.</p>

<p>You can now conveniently resend mailings in two ways:</p>
<ul>
<li><b>Resend a campaign to a group of subscribers.</b></li>
<li><b>Resend an email to a single subscriber.</b></li>
</ul>
<p>Today we&#8217;ll highlight three scenarios where these capabilities come in handy.</p>
<h2>1. Moving a campaign from a test list to a live mailing list.</h2>
<p>If your workflow involves creating your email campaign in one list you use for testing and then copying/pasting the content into another mailing list to send out to your subscribers, your process just became infinitely simpler.</p>
<p>Once your team has approved your email, select Edit &amp; Resend from the drop-down menu highlighted above, and we automatically clone the mailing, taking you to the campaign summary page.</p>

<p>Hit Edit in the Audience section and change the Primary List from your test list to the correct mailing list (you can even add additional lists here as well).</p>

<p>Then hit Next Step: Campaign Summary to review everything and either send the campaign immediately or schedule it for later. After this, you&#8217;re all set!</p>
<h2>2. Sending a follow-up campaign to your subscribers.</h2>
<p>A great example of resending a campaign to a group of subscribers is sending a follow-up to subscribers who either did (or did not) open or click a previous mailing.</p>
<p>After selecting Edit &amp; Resend, choose Edit in the Audience section of the campaign summary screen, then Resend and Follow-Up from the Filter and Follow-Up drop-down menu:</p>

<p>What&#8217;s even better is you can set up the follow-up of any email as soon as it is scheduled <i>or</i> sent. Create your weekly newsletter, hit send or schedule, return to your dashboard, hit Edit &amp; Resend, select your criteria and schedule your automatic resend &#8211; all in a matter of minutes!</p>
<h2>3. Resending an email to a subscriber who didn&#8217;t receive the original.</h2>

<p>Sometimes you may have a subscriber say they didn&#8217;t receive your email and you want to send it directly to them. A sister function of our Edit &amp; Resend button allows you to resend any mailing to a single subscriber.</p>
<p>A different process from resending a campaign in bulk, you&#8217;ll start by pulling up the subscriber&#8217;s details through Subscriber &gt; Search, and then access the subscriber&#8217;s engagement information for a particular mailing list.</p>
<p>From here, it&#8217;s three more quick clicks, and the email will be on it&#8217;s way to your subscriber&#8217;s inbox. <p>If your goal is to have a successful event, it’s incredibly important to use all the necessary tools available, and that includes email marketing.</p>
<h2>Why You Should Use Email Marketing to Supercharge Events</h2>
<p>Email marketing – especially using email automation – can help you bring in more attendees, automate the signup, and RSVP process. Here’s how:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Invitations:</strong> Have a mailing list ready to go? Send out a batch of invitations through email marketing that includes RSVP confirmations to build your guest list.</li>
<li><strong>Confirmation:</strong> Confirm attendance to have a running list of attendees to plan the scope of the event without having to guess how many pamphlets to print or drinks to pour. Use links to move them into an RSVP mailing list or link through Zapier (see below) for ease of tracking.</li>
<li><strong>Countdowns:</strong> Build excitement amongst attendees as the event draws closer. Use the momentum of the number of sign-ups and scarcity (such as “only 5 tickets left!”) to encourage sharing and sign-ups.</li>
<li><strong>Notifications:</strong> Keep attendees in the loop about the event so they don’t forget, and quickly pass along any changes to the event’s time or location.</li>
<li><strong>Follow-ups:</strong> Of course, it doesn’t end after the event. Follow up by marketing the subject of the event through your solutions, offers, products, or services. <p>Let’s highlight this with an example:</p>
<p>You’re opening up a new location for a chain of restaurants and want to get people to attend the grand opening. Friends and family, investors and business partners will only fill so many seats. To bring in more, you leverage your current patrons at your other locations, asking them to join you for the grand opening.</p>
<p>First, you send out the initial group of invitations to those interested, along with others in your emails lists such as newsletter subscribers and those who follow you for events. Then you set up trigger emails to confirm their attendance and an email sequence to remind them as the grand opening approaches and to follow-up with a thank you for their attendance.</p>

<h2>Track Event Attendees with Tags</h2>
<p>A “tag” is any piece of information other than an email address of a subscriber. Not only useful for basic information like a name or what subscription method someone used, but tags can also be used to better customize and target your customers.</p>

Re-engaging inactive customers is a good thing regardless of your list growth trend because it improves both quality and deliverability as ISPs track engagement. Today we look at three ways you can proactively use the tools of your email service provider to keep your subscribers coming back for more.</p>
<h2>1. Create a Re-engagement Funnel</h2>
<p>These funnels are all about reaching out to inactive subscribers and bring them back. Create and use powerful <a href="https://feeds.feedblitz.com/~/t/0/0/feedblitz/~https://www.feedblitz.com/sending-email-automatically-an-introduction-to-funnels-formerly-knowns-as-autoresponders/">email funnels</a> to be sent to users who haven’t opened or clicked through on your email marketing recently. Here are some great setups for re-engagement:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Ask Them About Their Email Preferences:</strong> Check in and ask them about their email preferences. Would they like to see fewer emails? Emails only about certain things? <p>Try engaging your users with a survey, poll, or other forms of questions and requests for feedback. Simple requests for more information or questionnaires can make your customers feel involved in your company. This can be anything from feedback on their purchases from you to thoughts about a new design or product roll out. You might be surprised how much valuing your clients’ feedback can get them to open up, and it provides you with valuable data for your business.</p>
<h2>3. Sweeten the Deal with an Offer</h2>
<p>Another way to bring back inactive subscribers is with some sort of offer. Everyone likes a great deal delivered directly to their inbox. This works great with both active and inactive subscribers, but its usefulness here shouldn’t be understated.</p>

<li><strong>Tell Them About a Sale:</strong> Running a sale or deal on your products or services? Send it out as part of an email.</li>
<li><strong>Give Them a Promo Code:</strong> By providing a unique and limited-time promo code to your users, you can provide both a sense of urgency and exclusivity.</li>
<li><strong>Offer Them Something New:</strong> Rolling out a new service or product, or adding a new feature or design to an existing one (include your website)?</li>
</ul>
<p>These emails don’t even have to be exclusive to re-engagement campaigns. You can send out sales emails to all your subscribers but have two different emails, one for active users and a second with the same deal, but with the re-engagement funnel baked in. Think about sending follow-up emails about expiring sales or promo codes to give them a second chance.</p>
<h2>Bonus Way: General Tips to Improve Your Email Engagement</h2>
<p>The above three ways are designed specifically to create email marketing for bringing back inactive clients, but there are also proactive measures you can take to drive customer engagement. A few suggestions below:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Calls to Action:</strong> Revitalize your calls to action with new text, images, and colors. Also think about providing one form of contact (email, phone, form) over multiple options to reduce the clutter.</li>
<li><strong>New Content:</strong> Include content from your other media channels. <a href="https://feeds.feedblitz.com/~/t/0/0/feedblitz/~https://www.feedblitz.com/increasing-video-click-through/">Video content</a> and <a href="https://feeds.feedblitz.com/~/t/0/0/feedblitz/~https://www.feedblitz.com/how-to-socialize-your-emails/">social media content</a> are great places to start and can be automated.</li>
<li><strong>Automate Email Follow-ups: </strong>Send follow-up emails to people who didn’t open the initial send, and a separate one to people who did open but didn’t engage (click) on anything.</li>
