Dear Rabbi and members of the congregation who have supported his decision to stop brutally murderin...g innocent chickens in what is really, an archaic ritual that only serves to cause immense pain and suffering to those who did nothing to deserve that cruelty--THANK YOU FOR BEING A BEACON OF LIGHT TO OTHERS and for helping to stop the needless slaughter. ***** If only All of our religions and religious leaders would take the brave and noble step that you have done, to not only think of humans, but to think of non-human animals as well. ***** Many wise men have pointed out that what speaks volumes about each of us is how we treat those whom are 'lesser' than us. And animals are perhaps the most brutally abused on the planet-cows, pigs, chickens and turkeys especially since their deaths are in the tens of BILLIONS every year and the lives they lead are certainly not the lives God intended for them (they never see sunlight, they are abused, etc.) What's worse is that they are utterly helpless. They are the ultimate 'meek' beings on Earth since they cannot speak to us, they cannot tell us they are suffering, they cannot protect themselves and, against our cruel weapons, they cannot even protect themselves using the tools that God gave them (horns, claws, teeth, etc.) We tend to dismiss animal suffering as something that is not important. But there is a strong case to be made that when we encourage and participate in violence (whether directly or indirectly) and even when we ingest it (by eating animals who have been murdered), we are breeding more violence in our own cultures, in our World. And it's hard for their to be Peace on Earth when be are causing this immense suffering in billions. Dr. Will Tuttle PhD speaks very eloquently about this. I also urge any of you to also listen to the speeches (on You Tube) by brilliant chemist and concentration camp surviver, Dr. Alex Hershaft, PhD. He is the founder of FARM. Thank you again for showing compassion. He is opening minds and hearts in Israel www. youtube. com/watch?v=qm826I_P85M FOR ANYONE WHO WORRIES about the nutritional impacts of not using animals for food, I am a nutrition professor and I can assure you that God gave us all the plants on the Earth to fuel us. And with them we meet all of our nutritional needs. In fact, when we eat animals, the food kills us. Watch the documentary Forks Over Knives and Vegucated for more information. Indeed, with the food we grow to feed the 70 billion farm animals we raise to kill each year, we could use that protein and energy from grains and soy to feed the 1 billion starving humans on the planet.
