When a young Elijah Wood presented the Oscar for Visual Effects, a T-Rex emerged from the wings with his envelope. The award ended up going to Dennis Muren, Stan Winston, Phil Tippett and Michael Lantieri, the team behind "Jurassic Park.”

In 1943, President Franklin Roosevelt commended the film industry in a letter addressed to Academy President Walter Wanger: "In total war, motion pictures, like all other human endeavor, have an important part to play in the struggle for freedom and the survival of democracy." #Oscars90

I cannot hold up with the misgivings of The Oscar awards. It should be a competitio n based on talent and not political and liberal ideals. Give the award to the best because they are the “best.” Do no...t submit a name just to make sure it is “fair” to everyone. Submit a name for passion and creative talent that pushes an artist beyond themselves . Shame on The Oscars and Hollywood. Just like the recent sexual embarrassm ents, The Oscars will soon fall into a dark abyss- goodbye Oscars. Shame. What ever happened to The Greatest Showman? The theme is liberal. The talent beyond excellent. The Oscars are filled with poor decisions and people who do not know film excellence if it fell in their laps. Sad. הצג עוד

I am a working Native American/ Chicano actor. I have worked for 37 years in this industry. 261 speaking roles, all union sanctioned . Well over 100 feature length movies. Some of these have been big ro...les, with main titles credits, in major studio movies. Yet, I cannot get anyone to sponsor me. I saw the list of people who got in the past few years, and my credits are much more prestigiou s and numerous than many of those chosen for membership . This is the problem. If we cannot find friends who are in the Academy, then we have ZERO chance of being considered . I have attempted to warn you before that there are Latino, Hispanic and Native American advocacy groups that are planning protests, class action law suits and massive pressure on the Academy to open their doors to qualified minorities . I believe in our industry. I have made numerous attempts to communicat e the lack of access to you. I have also made numerous attempts to inform you that several minority advocacy groups are planning legal action against the Academy and the industry in general. This has happened before with the age discrimina tion class action suit, that was filed against the studios and networks. The industry never gets in front of these issues; preferring to respond once the fire of anger is lit. I am one of the case studies that some of these advocacy group are considerin g for the legal action. I do not want to do this, but your lack of response, makes it difficult to defend your organizati on. I may have to relent and cooperate with them, to clearly show the exclusion being experience d by qualified minority talent, such as myself. If you question my credits and think I am egotistica l, please check out my imdb page. Most of my massive credits are there. I am more than happy to share clips of my major work in movies. I have had large Co-star roles in Robocop, Born In East LA, Repo Man, many more. Those are the largest roles in studio movies. I am qualified to join. If someone will contact me, or steer me to where I can get someone, anyone, to consider sponsoring me, that will change my outlook on all of this. There is an exclusion in your organizati on. If you do not know anyone who is in the organizati on, how do you get in? Our industry is massive. I have gotten lost in the myriad of all of it. This is further documentat ion of the issues I have faced attempting to get considered for membership in AMPAS. I have been told to document all of it by the advocacy organizati on I am currently speaking with. הצג עוד

Thank you so much for nominating Timothée Chalamet for Best Actor.
Now, the Academy's job is... please, please, please... grant him the Best Actor award. Why?
1) The parting scene at the train station is by far, one of the most heart breaking scenes many people have ever seen. Other than I could totally relate to that experience , that is one very impeccable acting from Timothée.
So much is said without him having to say anything. No need for prosthetic makeups. No need for lengthy script (although, we all know he could have easily pulled it off - like what he did in Miss Stevens and Prodigal Son).
During the scene when he calls his mum from the station, again, he touched our hearts simply by us listening to his voice. From the crack of his voice, the tone and how he swallows his words.. We don't even have to look at him to feel how much pain his character is in.
2) If there is an actor who can continue to awe us during the credits, it's Timothée.. . Who needs acting, or rather, over-actin g, when you can hit our chords and strike our emotions through face expression s, genuine tears and gaze of your eyes. Totally splendid!
Do allow those eyes to gaze upon the Oscar statue when he accepts the Best Actor Award, because he totally deserves it!
Thank you The Academy.

And another victim of the Weinstein fiasco is... the film Wind River, one of the final to be released under the Weinstein banner prior to his “outing.” All nomination s and awards it has received/ won w...ere given prior to the scandal; since then... nada, which is an outright shame cause this IS the best picture of 2017!
Last year, the Academy (and MANY other awards organizati ons) heaped a ton of accolades on Taylor Sheridan’s screenplay for Hell or High Water. In short, Wind River, Sheridan’s directoria l debut that he also wrote, is far superior to HHW in every way fathomable ... deeply dark screenplay , haunting score (that interweave s what I can only describe as the wailing sounds of Native Americans who’ve lost their lives to atrocities ), impeccable sound and film editing, lush cinematogr aphy, beyond stellar direction by a first-time r, and amazingly heartfelt performanc es by a stable of actors who put in some of their very best work (Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Graham Greene, and the great Gil Birmingham , just to name a few). The fact it received NOTHING from the Globes or Oscars points strictly to Weinstein as the culprit (even though those responsibl e for the film scrubbed Harvey’s name from its reels and did everything possible to separate themselves from his disgusting jackass-er y).
To add irony to the situation, Wind River just happens to deal with the central subject of violence against women and the lengths decent people will go to in order to seek justice on their behalves. It’s just too bad the Academy couldn’t see past the actions of a despicable “man” and reward the many, many other great people involved with making this masterpiec e about coping with grief/ loss and the use of retributio n as a cathartic measure. הצג עוד

Thanks for snubbing anime again for Best Animation. You really think Boss Baby and Ferdinand are better films than A Silent Voice or In This Corner of the World? I really thought this might be the yea...r for another anime nomination since their movies were strong again this year and the US didn't really have anything good to compete. Guess it all boils down to who you know and not the story or art. הצג עוד

Shutting James Franco out of the Academy Awards is the act of a hypocrite. I will never watch your shitty award show. With all of the sexual misconduct allegation s that go on in Hollywood. No one is g...oing to understand the accused actors story. This times up movment is so one sided. If people knew more about the accuser and their track record. The actors would not be scrutinize d over something that has been blown way out of proportion . הצג עוד

If you really want to change something in the industry then you should start by not letting Casey Affleck present BEST ACTRESS this year. You should not give the Best Actor award to Oldman who is a wi...fe beater. Stop rewarding Oscar baits and start rewarding natural and real performanc es. Moreover, The Academy shouldn't reward actors for their careers, they should reward the most deserving performanc es of the year regardless of age, sex or race. . Stop giving Oscars to actors or actresses who are "DUE", reward the ones who give the best performanc es of the year. The Oscars are NOT a lifetime achievemen t award to honor the body of work. Only 14% of Academy members are younger than 50, I think it's time to bring more younger folk into the fold. And stop nominating Meryl Streep every f...ing year, give that woman a break. הצג עוד

Some interestin g nomination s this year... Although the fact that Blade Runner 2049 wasn't nominated for Best Picture bothers me, as well as James Franco being snubbed for his Tommy Wiseau portrayal. ..... And also why wasn't The Meyeroritz Stories not nominated for any acting Oscars???? Adam Sandler did one hell of a great job, Dustin Hoffman was a beast as always! Wind River didn't get nominated for anything either! Come on Academy, get your head on straight, and expand your "mainstrea m only" taste הצג עוד

So sad that you are bringing back the hate filled Kimmel as host. Will NOT be watching or reviewing it this year. I don't need to hear about his sick baby (you're not the only one Jimmy) or his hate f...or PRESIDENT Trump. His humor is always hateful and not funny but I guess that's what you guys want, political crap for 4 hours.
