Consider gifting some artful and scientific fun with this mug depicting a very different view of “The Wedding Dance” by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. The top of the mug reveals Bruegel’s underdrawing (preparatory sketch), which is hidden beneath his paint! The drawing is not visible in normal light, but a modified camera can see it in the infrared spectrum. Using the infrared image, a DIA conservator digitally traced Bruegel’s underdrawing to increase its legibility.
