…Hegemonic masculinity and the stiff upper lip have befallen men and those who love them. I refuse to stand by and watch as the men I love struggle and suffer. Watching my own father suffer in silence has impacted the very life I lead. To hell with suffering in silence. To all the boys I know and love please cry, scream and yell. Please tell me how you are feeling. I refuse to stand by and let the men in my life suffer in silence.
This November myself, along with my formidable AUJS clan will be running/walking/swimming and (NOT) shaving for men's health, both mental and physical. Putting men's mental illness on the map allows us to have the tough conversations that have us reaching for our phone.
