The Hatch Memorial Shell on the Esplanade
The Edward A. Hatch Memorial Shell is an outdoor concert venue on the Charles River Esplanade in the Back Bay section of Boston, Massachusetts. From the Boston Pop's Fourth of July Concert to Free Concerts throughout the Summer, the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade is a wonderful place to catch a live show.
Commonwealth Avenue Mall
Part of the Emerald Necklace, the Commonwealth Avenue Mall became the spine of the elegant new Back Bay neighborhood and the crucial green link between the Public Garden and Frederick Law Olmsted's park system when it was developed in the mid-19th Century.
Today, the Mall is a lovely space for a stroll.
Boston University
Boston University is a leading private research institution with two primary campuses in the heart of Boston and programs around the world.
Boston Common
The starting point of the Freedom Trail, Boston Common is the oldest park in the country. The park is almost 50 acres in size. Today, Boston Common is the anchor for the Emerald Necklace, a system of connected parks that winds through many of Boston's neighborhoods. The "Common" has been used for many different purposes throughout its long history. Until 1830, cattle grazed the Common, and until 1817, public hangings took place here. British troops camped on Boston Common prior to the Revolution and left from here to face colonial resistance at Lexington and Concord in April, 1775. Celebrities, including Martin Luther King Jr., Pope John Paul II, and Gloria Steinem (advocate of the feminist revolution), have given speeches at the Common.
New England Aquarium
The New England Aquarium has been a leader in ocean exploration and conservations since its opening in 1969. Combining education and entertainment, the aquarium’s 187,000-gallon tank is home to many species as well as a living coral reef. Link
Boston Childrens Museum
Boston Children’s Museum (3 miles) 308 Congress St, Boston, MA 02210 (617) 426-6500 For over 100 years, Boston Children’s Museum has been engaging children in experiences that instill an appreciation of our world, develop foundational skills and spark a lifelong love of learning. The museum’s exhibits emphasize hands-on learning, using play as a tool to spark the curiosity and imagination of children. Museum exhibits focus on science, culture, environmental awareness, health and the arts.
Institute of Contemporary Art
Institute of Contemporary Art (2.6 miles) 100 Northern Avenue, Boston, MA 02110 (617) 478-3103 The Institute of Contemporary Art has been exhibiting modern art since its founding in 1936. The museum houses a permanent exhibit of major works by modern artists, as well as visiting exhibitions throughout the year. The museum’s waterfront location and dramatic architecture are also an attraction to visitors.
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (1 mile) 280 The Fenway, Boston, MA 02115 (617) 566-1401 Isabella Stewart Gardner, an American art collector, philanthropist and patron of the arts, founded this museum in 1903. Designed after a 15th-century Venetian palace, the museum contains over 2,500 pieces of art, many collected personally by Ms. Gardner, as well as a beautiful garden courtyard.
Museum of Fine Arts Boston
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (1 mile) 465 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115 (617) 267-9300 The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston is one of the most comprehensive museums in the world, with a collection that includes over 450,000 pieces. It features art from Ancient Egypt, as well as historic and contemporary masterpieces from Europe and America. The MFA also showcases traveling exhibitions. In 2010, the Art of the Americas Wing opened with four floors of American art through the ages.
Museum of Science
Museum of Science (2.5 miles) 1 Science Park, Boston, MA 02114 (617) 723-2500 Founded in 1830, the Museum of Science features over 400 interactive exhibits, as well as daily live presentations. The museum is also home to over 100 live animals, a planetarium and an IMAX theater
Fenway Park
Fenway Park (0.6 miles) 4 Yawkey Way, Boston, MA 02215 (877) 733-7699 As the home field of the Red Sox, Fenway Park is easily the most well known landmark in Boston. Catch a game while you’re in town, or take an hour-long tour of this historic baseball field dating back to 1912.
Newbury Street
