When running macOS as your main operating system, supported and compatible components are extremely important. That is why we have created a large selection of example systems along with a comprehensive list of the best available hardware. The components listed here might not be the only ones that work, but based on our research they're the easiest and best supported options. If you're building a CustoMac, Intel's 7th Generation Kaby Lake CPUs and 200 Series motherboards are now available, however the platform is not native yet in macOS. It is a great time to take advantage of closeout pricing on fully compatible components. Intel's 6th Generation Skylake CPU + 100 Series Motherboards + NVIDIA GeForce 'Pascal' Graphics Card is the current recommendation. CustoMac Mini
The CustoMac Mini is a bare-bones CustoMac in a shoebox sized case featuring a H170 mini-iTX motherboard plus a dual-core Skylake CPU and budget graphics card. The case includes a power-efficient power supply unit. Less parts, less power, less heat, less cost. Because of the small size of the Apex Mini-008 case referenced below, overclockable "K" CPUs are not recommended.

CustoMac Mini Deluxe
The CustoMac Mini "Deluxe" is a no-compromise build featuring a Z170 mini-ITX motherboard and a quad-core Skylake CPU. The BitFenix Phenom is a unique way of thinking about a mini-ITX system, as it's not exactly small. It's about the size of a mATX case, making room for multiple hard drives, and a full sized graphics card. The Z170 motherboard is also capable of overclocking if you use a "K" CPU, and there is even room for a water cooler for the CPU.

Note: Some motherboards will not support resolutions higher than 1080p at 60hz. Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA graphics resolutions greater than 1080p at 60hz resolution require DisplayPort. NVIDIA 9xx cards with HDMI or DisplayPort will support displays to 4K at 60hz.

Graphics Cards
One of the most important components in a custom build is the graphics card. If you're building a CustoMac, it's an especially tricky decision. Not only do you have to worry about what will be a good performer for the cost, but you also have to be informed about what is fully supported, and what is not. Each gives a range of port options, install compatibility, and is known to work with minimal configuration. Furthermore, it's now possible to use multiple NVIDIA cards in tandem- dual and triple cards are enabled by default.
All current NVIDIA GeForce ‘Pascal’ based graphics cards listed here require alternate NVIDIA graphics drivers to enable full acceleration. See here for details.
EDIT: As of Tuesday, April 11th, NVIDIA ‘Pascal’ graphics cards are now fully supported! Touted as the most powerful graphics cards on the market, these include the GeForce GTX 1050, 1050 Ti, 1060, 1070, 1080, 1080 Ti, TITAN Pascal, and TITAN Xp.
