As far back as i can remember , I Could See The Northern Lights. They would Dance almost every evening in the winter months , Way above my Head here in tiny village of Tromvik.
But as child we where told not to look or wave at these strange mistifying colourful Lights , or lady aurora would come down and take us away ,far up into the sky.
Or if you were not sleeping on time ,the trolls who live in amongst the rocks and mountains, would also come out and take you away.
Things have not changed that much with some of the elderly still believing to this day that is true.

What causes the aurora?
The typical aurora is caused by collisions between fast-moving electrons from space combined with the oxygen and nitrogen in Earth’s upper atmosphere. The electrons—which come from the Earth’s magnetosphere, the region of space controlled by Earth’s magnetic field —transfer their energy to the oxygen and nitrogen atoms and molecules, making them “excited”.
As the gases return to their normal state, they emit photons, small bursts of energy
in the form of light.
When a large number of electrons come from the magnetosphere to bombard the atmosphere, the oxygen and nitrogen can emit enough light for the eye to detect,giving us the beautiful auroral displays we call the northern lights.
This ghostly light originates at altitudes of 100 to more than 400 km (60 to more than 250 miles) above us.

These nights are great photography nights for lighting up the landscape with aurora and full moon.
Colours on the Aurora can be more difficult to see with the naked eye if there’s a weak aurora and a Full Moon
The Aurora or northern lights are a natural Phenomenon , depending on the activity on the sun,its based on a kp value from 0-9.
Which indicates how far away from the arctic circle you should be to see the aurora.
With us being under the arctic circle here in Tromsø ,we don’t need a kp value to see it can be seen on 0 kp,but the higher the number the better the show.
There Are More Northern Lights Visible in This Area Than Any Where Else In The World,Partly Because, We Are Directly Under the Auroral Oval
And This Part of the Northern Hemisphere Has More Clear skies Than Any Where Else under the Arctic Circle , Due To The Structural Landscape of the Area, resulting in a Higher Chance of viewing ,More Northern Lights ,as And When The Sun Is Active Enough to discharge charged particles ( AND THATS A FACT.)
