What Is SimSolid?

By performing structural analyses on fully featured CAD assemblies within minutes, Altair SimSolid is the game-changing simulation technology for designers, engineers, and analysts. It eliminates geometry preparation and meshing: the two most time-consuming, expertise-extensive and error-prone tasks performed in a conventional structural simulation.

Who Uses SimSolid?

Designers, engineers, structural analysts that are looking for a quick and accurate solution for design and analysis.

SimSolid Software - Structural analysis for rapid design iterations SimSolid Software - Nonlinear analysis accurately reproducing the contact between bolt and plate SimSolid Software - Create 1000’s of connections in seconds SimSolid Software - Reaction and connection forces to understand the structural behavior

Meshless CADs

5.0 2 months ago

Comments: Complex parts static analysis in short time period.

Pros:

We can do large and complex parts assembles with simsolid which very good. With in seconds we can make static analysis.

Cons:

You have to run the model from the beginning every time when you are doing convergence study.

Lead Time reduction for CAE simulation

4.0 3 years ago

Comments: I use SIMSOLID to simulate various mechanisms.
I do linear, non-linear and modal analysis but the software has over capacities (dynamics and thermal).
The mechanisms I work on are complex with a lot of contact between the parts.
I can obtain results after few clicks and few minutes, this allows me to test a maximum of solutions in a very short time.

Pros:

Possibility to import natif CAD format. Type of analyzes that can be performed: linear, non-linear (geometry, materials, contact), modal, dynamic and thermal. It is possible to automatically create weld beads , to detect contacts and to detect scews/bolts. The software is always update with new features. The support can easily be reached

Cons:

You can't modify for the moment the CAD in SIMSOLID interface. The import of CAD is a little bit long

Comments: Simulation of cross car beam assembly from static nonlinear.

Pros:

No meshing, fast solution, easy to use, good for design.

Cons:

Extend to dynamic analysis. Improve the contact section.

Absolutely game changing FE solver

5.0 4 weeks ago New

Pros:

Through the use of the external approximations theory Altair have managed to build an amazing, robust and very fast simulation engine. It supports meshless simulation and it can handle local contact imperfections so well that it can be considered one of the most reliable simulation softwares on the market.

Cons:

Nothing in general, perhaps GUI can be polished a little bit.

Recommended for rough estimations and visualizations

4.0 last year

Pros:

SimSolid has a very fast and straight forward setup process which helps a lot to get a first impression of a systems behavior. The results are good enough for rough estimations and visualizations especially when you are looking at something "new". A real benefit is also the fast and reliable auto contact definition algorithm. Even models with several hundred parts can be set up within 1 hour.

Cons:

The results can be very inaccurate depending on the problem. And to very the error can be very difficult because to do convergence study you have to run the model from the beginning every time. So solver and solution control are definitely a weak spot and can be further improved. Also the model discretization for results visualization sometimes looks very rough and there is no control for that (created a ticket already).
