Sources reveal that the current political scenario has impacted the film’s release

A source was quoted in IANS saying, “The decision to halt the screening of Emergency in Bangladesh is tied to the current strained relations between India and Bangladesh. The ban is less about the content of the film and more about the ongoing political dynamics between the two nations."

Meanwhile, another factor that seems to have played a role in this ban is the assassination of Shaikh Mujibir Rehman who is regarded as the Father of Bangladesh, since he played a key role in the separation of Bangladesh from Pakistan. We hear that the film showcases his murder by a group of Bangladeshi extremists that has also further impacted the release.

Indira Gandhi supported Bangladesh war in their war of separation with Pakistan which led to the Indo-Pak war in 1971

Despite being asked by the US Government who were showcasing their support towards Pakistan at the time when a portion of the country demanded a separate nation, India showcased support. Indira Gandhi intervened and supported East Pakistan to create a separation nation of Bangladesh. This led to a war between India and Pakistan in 1971. Followed by the same, a state of Emergency was declared by her for a span of 21 months from 1975 to 1977 citing internal and external threats to the country.

About Emergency – the film

The Creative Minds Behind Sirf Tum The film marks the collaboration between Acharya’s production company, V2S Production & Entertainment, and director Deepak Shivdasani. Shivdasani is known for his previous directorial work on films such as Baaghi, Gopi Kishan, Bhai, and Krishna.

Sirf Tum is being produced by Vidhi Acharya, with Soundarya Acharya serving as the executive producer. The project also acknowledges Boney Kapoor for his special contributions, as noted in the announcement. Sirf Tum First Look Poster The announcement was accompanied by a creative poster that offers a glimpse into the tone of the film. The poster is designed to look like a page from a notebook, featuring a hand-drawn illustration of a young man and woman facing each other. Both characters are holding a blue pen, their hands meeting in the middle.

The man, dressed in a hoodie with faint handwritten text overlaid on his figure, smiles gently at the woman. The woman, with her hair tied back in a loose bun and also surrounded by similar text, looks back at him with an equally soft expression. Their connection appears understated yet intimate, suggesting the themes of simplicity and purity in their relationship.

The title, Sirf Tum, is prominently displayed at the bottom of the poster in a clean font. The tagline, “Love has no reason,” hints at the story’s central premise.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “As we all know there was a crazy demand to watch Coldplay’s concert live due to its insane popularity in India. But many couldn't get tickets as the shows got full in no time. But they should not be worried as they can now head to a theatre and experience the Coldplay magic on the big screen. It can’t replicate the experience of watching it at the concert venue but still, it would be worth it as theatres will stream the event live on the big screen and the songs will play on the advanced sound systems installed in most multiplexes. Also, there’ll be other Coldplay fans in the audi who would be equally excited and pumped up. Moreover, in concerts, you have to stand and watch the show but here, you can comfortably sit, if you wish to, and enjoy the experience, that too in an air-conditioned environment.”

The Coldplay concerts will be held at D Y Patil Stadium near Mumbai on January 18, 19 and 21 followed by two shows at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26. The source said, “All these shows will be premiered live in theatres.” The source further said that Coldplay fans can catch the experience at PVR Inox cinemas. It remains to be seen if other multiplex chains will also be following suit.

The India leg of Coldplay - Music Of The Spheres World Tour ignited a lot of controversy after most fans failed to get a ticket on the booking app. Meanwhile, tickets at inflated rates were instantly available on resale websites. The matter became so serious that even the police got involved.

On January 11, fans were surprised when BookMyShow announced that they’d once again open the booking and sell some tickets on their platform for these concerts.

Lost Opportunities Amid the Pandemic In an interview with Pinkvilla, Madhur Bhandarkar detailed how Inspector Ghalib did not materialize. The film, described as an action-packed story in a realistic setting, was sidelined when the pandemic struck. “Woh rakhi hai picture. It was a very good script. I have always wanted to make that film. Pandemic aa gaya, then we lost contact. Aur fir maine aise hi rakhi script,” Bhandarkar said. The project’s progress stalled as Bhandarkar and Khan lost communication, leading the filmmaker to set the script aside temporarily. Future Aspirations for Inspector Ghalib Despite the setbacks, Bhandarkar remains optimistic about revisiting the film. He said, “But definitely I’ll revisit sometime. I would like to make that film. It’s an action-packed film but again, in a real zone. It’s a very topical subject. Definitely main banaunga.” The filmmaker’s passion for the subject indicates that Inspector Ghalib could see the light of day in the future.

Speaking of the professional front, Madhur’s most recent announcement, Wives of Bollywood, has generated significant interest among fans. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan continues to dominate headlines with his upcoming film King, directed by Siddharth Anand and featuring his daughter Suhana Khan.

This film, directed by Maruthi, is poised to deliver an exciting blend of eerie thrills and laughter. Prabhas steps into the role of a man drawn back to his ancestral property, only to discover a vengeful spirit lurking in the shadows. After the monumental success of Kalki: 2898 AD, Prabhas takes a bold step away from his larger-than-life, intense roles, embracing a mischievous, spectral persona that will surely stun audiences. His vintage avatar, reminiscent of the Prabhas fans adored in his earlier days, adds an extra layer of charm and excitement.

The Raja Saab, directed by the renowned Maruthi, a pioneer in the horror-comedy genre in Telugu cinema, is produced by Viswa Prasad under the People Media Factory banner. With music by Thaman S, the film will release across five languages: Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Recalls Rakesh Roshan, “When a film is rewarded and awarded it definitely gives one a huge high. Sometimes a film does exceptionally well at the box office. But it doesn’t win any awards. Then again, there are award-winning films which aren’t successful at the box office. Kaho Na…Pyar Hai did both. It became a hit and got awards. But to be honest, I didn’t expect so many awards. I think for three members of the same family (Rakesh Roshan, his brother Rajesh Roshan and son Hrithik) to win awards for the same film is unprecedented.

While other films featuring protagonists in a double role had been consistently flopping, two Hrithiks in Kaho Na…Pyar Hai seemed to please audiences immensely.

Rakesh Roshan explains why. “This was a double role with a difference. The two Hrithiks were never together. When one dies the other appears. So, in a way the two characters formed a complete whole. In most films featuring double roles one is a good and the other a bad guy. In this case both the Hrithiks were shown as decent human beings with different attitudes to life. We planned the film in the way it was presented with the girl Ameesha Patel gradually coming to love the person whom her dead boyfriend resembles although she insists, she can never forget her first love. It’s the crisis in the girl’s life that brings her close to her dead love’s lookalike.”

The filmmaker remembers the moment he decided to cast his son Hrithik in Kaho Na…Pyar Hai. “On the morning when I decided on this story Hrithik was sitting next to me. Since the story required a new face we decided then and there that Hrithik would do it. Contrary to rumours, Shah Rukh Khan was never considered for Kaho Na…Pyar Hai. He was in the running for another film that I was planning to make at that time. If I had made that film Hrithik would have made his debut a couple of years down the line. It was fate, I guess.”

Soon after Kaho Na…Pyar Hai was declared a blockbuster Rakesh Roshan was shot at by the underworld which claimed he had promised that Hrithik would do a film for them. “I never gave any indication that Hrithik could do a film for them. I kept putting them off saying Hrithik had no dates, which in any case, was the truth. They then asked me to take dates away from other producers and give it to them. This again, I refused to do. Once I had committed my son’s dates elsewhere, I refused to give into arm twisting tactics. I never gave in. With the kind of tension and fear that some of us had to bear, we couldn’t do anything creative, let alone make a film.”

After the director's positive comment, it is clear that Triptii Dimri will be seen in Anurag Basu's Aashiqui 3, sharing the screen space with Kartik Aaryan. Anurag Basu's recent clarification highlights how negative publicity hampers a celebrity's image, which gives rise to false narrative built by the public. However, amid ongoing claims, Triptii Dimri chose to stay silent and let her work speak. Additionally, with Anurag Basu's clarification, it is clear that Triptii Dimri carries all the elements of being the perfect fit for the role in Aashiqui 3, and showcasing her acting prowess by being dedicated to her craft.

Additionally, several film journalists have extended support to Triptii Dimri by taking to their social media handles to highlight the negative publicity surrounding the news. They have spoken about how negative publicity, toxicity, trolls, derogatory remarks, and shaming affect an actor's work, questioning their work integrity, and how outsiders face these challenges to create their own space in the industry.

For the past two years, Triptii Dimri has been on a roll! The actress starred in the blockbuster film Animal, and added to its commercial success with her solid acting mettle. In 2024, she delivered multiple theatrical releases, including Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, Bad Newz, latest hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and the re-release of her romantic classic film Laila Majnu.

Now, the actress is set to kickstart 2025 on a roaring note with multiple releases coming up. Triptii Dimri will be seen sharing the screen space with Shahid Kapoor in Sajid Nadiadwala's untitled next. The actress has already started filming for the Vishal Bhardwaj directorial. Later, she will be seen in Dhadak 2 alongside Siddhant Chaturvedi. Proving to be an in-demand actress, Triptii Dimri also has Imtiaz Ali's The Idiot of Istanbul in the pipeline.

Before the screening, held at a multiplex in Mumbai, Hrithik Roshan quipped, “I am here not to celebrate the film. I hoped that no one would watch the film again because pol kabhi bhi khul sakti hai, even 25 years later! I am here for you guys. I want to celebrate you and your love.”

The host asked if it was true that he was not prepared for his debut film. Hrithik Roshan replied, “I am never prepared for anything! I have to work very hard. It was a shock when my dad (Rakesh Roshan) was making this film with me. He was discussing a story which was supposedly for some actor or some star. (I assumed that) it was for Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan or Aamir Khan. Halfway through the narration, I started to complain that ‘Papa, this is not going to suit all these stars. I have seen them do all of this in their initial films’. He replied, ‘Shut up, I am making this film with you’! Hence, yes, it was a bit of a shock.”

Hrithik Roshan continued, “I quietly went to my room. I didn’t know what to do. He came behind me and asked ‘What happened?’. I said, ‘Nothing’. He said, ‘Be ready in 4 months’. He replied, ‘Ok then. 6 months’! That’s how it started.”

The host then played a ‘this or that’ game with Hrithik and the fans, mentioning different films of the star. When she asked ‘Dhoom 2 or War’, the audience was left divided. Hrithik Roshan answered, “That is difficult as War 2 is coming up now. I am preparing for the big dance number now. I hope my leg stays strong! In that context, let’s choose War as I have got to be ready for that dance number.”

Bollywood Hungama was the first one to reveal way back in April 2024 that Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR will feature in ‘Jai Jai Shivshankar’ meets ‘Naatu Naatu’ out-and-out massy dance song in War 2. Composed by Pritam, it’s said to be one of the highlights of the film.”

When asked ‘Bang Bang or Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, the fans chose the latter. On this, Hrithik said, “I agree. It’s a forever film. That is a film I’ll be proud of for life. I don’t think that film will age.” A female admirer shouted ‘Part 2 chahiye’ and the fans agreed with her.

Hrithik Roshan, meanwhile, was overwhelmed by the adulation from the fans. When the host mentioned ’25 years of Hrithik Roshan’, he corrected her, “25 years of love. If you are going to celebrate me, I am going to exit!”

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “As it happens for Nasha Premiere Nights, the screening will be graced by the cast and crew of the film. They’ll go down memory lane and speak about the film, memories of shooting it, etc. A lot of trivia, which has never come out before, is expected to be divulged by the team members of Satya. However, unlike other Nasha Premiere Nights events, the screening will take place first followed by the Q-and-A with the cast and crew. Usually, it’s the other way round.”

When asked who would be present at the screening, the source replied, “Ram Gopal Varma has confirmed his presence. The actors of the film like Manoj Bajpayee, Saurabh Shukla, Shefali Shah, Urmila Matondkar, etc. are also expected.” Satya had unforgettable music by Vishal Bhardwaj. The lyrics were penned by Gulzar and it remains to be seen if the duo and also the lead actor Chakravarthy along with writer Anurag Kashyap also make it to Satya’s re-release premiere.

The source further said, “The premiere is expected to become a talking point as all of them probably never came together. Some of them did when the film completed 25 years in 2023 but this one is expected to be bigger. Also, lucky fans will get a chance to watch the film ahead of its re-release and in the presence of these stalwarts.”

Satya was the story of a man who comes to Mumbai looking for a job and gets drawn into the underworld. The film was loved for its realistic treatment, dialogues, songs and performances. Manoj Bajpayee's portrayal of Bhiku Mhatre made him an actor to watch out for.

In late 2024, Adar Poonawalla made headlines by acquiring a 50% stake in Dharma Productions and Dharmatic Entertainment for Rs. 1,000 crores. This partnership, valued at Rs. 2,000 crores, marks a new era for the production house. Poonawalla’s strategic acumen, combined with Dharma’s storytelling prowess, creates a powerful synergy aimed at leveraging emerging opportunities in India’s dynamic entertainment ecosystem.

Poonawalla’s investment goes beyond financial backing. It signifies a commitment to transforming content creation, distribution, and audience engagement through advanced technologies and innovative methods. As Karan Johar aptly put it, “This partnership is about honoring our roots while embracing the future of global entertainment.”

Historically, Dharma Productions relied on major studios and distributors to release its films. However, with the hiring of Bhumika Tewari, a seasoned expert from Zee Studios, Dharma is venturing into film distribution. Tewari’s proven track record with hits like Good Newwz (2019) and Kesari (2019) positions Dharma to manage its in-house film releases and potentially distribute films from other banners in the future.

This move mirrors the business model of Yash Raj Films, a pioneer in producing and distributing films. By controlling the distribution process, Dharma aims to maximize revenue streams, retain intellectual property, and ensure better nationwide releases for its films. Industry insiders view this step as Dharma’s natural progression towards becoming a complete studio.

Bollywood has long grappled with inefficiencies in content distribution, often relying on external entities to bridge the gap between producers and audiences. Dharma’s entry into distribution could prove transformative in multiple ways. By having a dedicated distribution arm, Dharma can ensure optimal screen allocation and marketing strategies, especially for mid-budget films, which often struggle to find visibility in cinemas. This expansion is also expected to foster healthy competition, challenging existing players and encouraging innovation within the industry. Moreover, Dharma’s distribution wing has the potential to extend its services to other banners, providing a lifeline to independent filmmakers and ensuring their projects reach wider audiences. This multi-faceted approach could significantly elevate the overall efficiency and vibrancy of Bollywood’s distribution landscape.

The partnership with Poonawalla comes at a crucial time for Dharma Productions. Despite fluctuations in profitability—with net profits dipping to Rs. 10.70 crores in FY 2023-24 after recovering to Rs. 27.1 crores in FY 2022-23—the company has shown resilience. Revenue streams from distribution, digital, satellite, and music rights have remained strong, demonstrating Dharma’s ability to adapt to industry trends.

In FY 2022-23, Dharma’s revenue soared to Rs. 1,044 crores, primarily driven by Rs. 656 crores from distribution rights. This underscores the immense potential of its new distribution venture to further stabilize its financial performance.

India’s entertainment industry is undergoing a seismic shift, fueled by digital penetration and evolving consumer preferences. By integrating cutting-edge technologies and exploring new content formats, Dharma is positioning itself to cater to a digitally savvy audience. This approach aligns with global trends, ensuring Bollywood remains relevant in an increasingly interconnected world.

Karan Johar has a robust slate of projects lined up for 2025, starting with Dhadak 2 and an untitled period legal drama featuring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday. These films reflect Dharma’s commitment to delivering diverse content while tapping into star power.

Johar’s broader vision includes scaling Dharma into a multi-faceted powerhouse that seamlessly integrates cinema, streaming, and global content. Apoorva Mehta, Dharma’s CEO, emphasized that the partnership with Poonawalla would enable the company to “explore new avenues” and “elevate the Indian entertainment ecosystem.”

Dharma Productions’ transition from a production house to a comprehensive studio signals a pivotal moment for Bollywood. By entering the distribution business and leveraging Adar Poonawalla’s resources and expertise, Dharma is not only strengthening its own portfolio but also setting a benchmark for the industry. This expansion is a testament to Bollywood’s potential to evolve and compete on the global stage, offering audiences richer, more diverse narratives. As Dharma charts this ambitious course, it brings with it the promise of a brighter, more innovative future for Indian cinema.
