J D Chakravarthy revealed, “There was a scene where Bhiku Mhatre is torturing a guy. Anurag, Saurabh Shukla and I were present on the sets. Anurag wrote one fantastic monologue. We actors assume that jitni zyada line hai, utni zyada hamari acting capability dikhegi! I was happy when Anurag gave me the lines.”

At this point, Anurag Kashyap made some funny remark and Chakaravarthy told him, “Tu beech mein mat bol!”

J D Chakravarthy continued, “Ramu sir walked in. I told him, ‘Just listen to what he wrote’. He heard and got excited. He asked for the sheet on which the dialogue was written. He called it ‘fantastic’ and then started to tear the page! We were baffled. Ramu sir’s logic was, ‘If someone wants to kill, woh uske ghar pe jaa ke usko kyun bolega’.”

J D Chakravarthy then brought the house down as he said, “Let me tell Anurag a secret. One day, I asked Ramu sir, ‘You are contributing so much to the writing. Why are you giving credit to Anurag and Saurabh?’ You know what he answered? He told me, ‘Who knows after this film, if some underworld fellow calls me, I can always say ki main toh Hyderabad se aaya hoon, Anurag aur Saurabh ne film likhi hai’!”

Awakened by suspicious noises around 2:00 AM, Saif encountered an intruder attempting to burglarize his home. Despite the apparent risk, he took matters into his own hands, engaging the intruder in a confrontation that resulted in multiple injuries, including two deep stab wounds. The actor was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery led by top medical experts.

While Saif’s injuries are not life-threatening, the damage underscores the unpredictable dangers faced during such incidents. This incident raises critical questions about the adequacy of security measures, even in affluent areas like Bandra, where high-profile residents are assumed to have robust protection systems. The intrusion has sparked discussions about the importance of technological advancements in home security, such as surveillance cameras, motion sensors, and rapid response systems.

Experts have suggested that this could serve as a wake-up call for celebrities and individuals living in isolated or expansive homes to reevaluate their security arrangements.

As the police work diligently to identify the perpetrator and piece together the details of the crime, fans and well-wishers have flooded social media with messages of concern and support for the actor. Saif’s family has expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love while urging privacy during this challenging time.

It all started with International Khiladi in 1999, where Vivek Shauq played Twinkle’s brother. His character is killed off early in the film, setting a dramatic tone for the narrative. The same year, in Baadshah, Deepak Tijori took on the role of Twinkle’s sibling, only to suffer a similar fate. His untimely death becomes a crucial turning point in the story, driving the plot forward.

Then came Mela in 2000, a film remembered for its larger-than-life drama and intense action sequences. Ayub Khan played Twinkle’s brother in this tale of revenge and resilience. In one of the film’s most shocking moments, Ayub’s character is killed by the antagonist (played by Tinu Verma), leaving Twinkle’s character vulnerable and alone to face the harsh realities of a lawless world.

While it’s not uncommon for Bollywood films to use the demise of a loved one as a plot device to heighten emotional stakes, the recurrence of this trope in Twinkle’s films stood out. Three films in quick succession featured her brothers meeting tragic ends, creating a pattern that was hard to ignore.

Though her on-screen career eventually shifted away from such roles, this quirky detail remains a memorable chapter in Twinkle Khanna’s Bollywood journey. It’s a testament to how even seemingly incidental elements in films can weave unexpected patterns, making Bollywood’s storytelling tapestry all the more intriguing.

Yes, Akshay Kumar and Tabu are all set to bring their charm to Bhooth Bangla after 25 years. As two icons of Bollywood who have consistently won hearts with their stellar performances, their reunion after such a long time is highly anticipated. Interestingly, Akshay and Tabu previously shared screen space in classic cult films like Hera Pheri and Tu Chor Main Sipahi. Watching them collaborate again after such a long hiatus will undoubtedly be a treat for fans.

The makers took to their social media and shared an adorable picture of Akshay Kumar and Tabu hugging each other on the sets in Jaipur. They further jotted down the caption - "Some things get better and iconic with time! / @priyadarshan.official , @akshaykumar and @tabutiful are back in action after 25 years for #BhootBangla in Jaipur."

Moreover, the film will also reunite the iconic trio of director Priyadarshan, Akshay Kumar, and Tabu, who last worked together in the cult comedy Hera Pheri. This has undoubtedly heightened the anticipation for the film, which is coming with such a stellar cast and intriguing premise.

Directed by Priyadarshan, Bhooth Bangla is produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms and Akshay Kumar's production house, Cape of Good Films. The film is co-produced by Faara Sheikh and Vedant Baali. The story is written by Akash A Kaushik and the screenplay by Rohan Shankar, Abilash Nair, and Priyadarshan. Rakesh Roshan shared a lot of anecdotes related to the film at the end of last year when Karan Arjun had re-released in theatres. But in a five-year-old interview with this writer for Cinestaan.com, the filmmaker shared that before the film went on floors, hardly anyone believed in the story, including one of its lead actors Shah Rukh Khan.

Along with him, Karan Arjun starred Salman Khan, Rakhee Gulzar, Amrish Puri, Kajol and Mamta Kulkarni. The film was about two brothers Karan (Salman) and Arjun (Shah Rukh) getting killed and later getting reincarnated to avenge their death. All this while, their mother, played by Rakhee, had faith that they would return even after death.

While sharing the film’s rough idea, Roshan had said in the interview, “She (Rakhee) is just waiting for her sons to return. It doesn’t matter if they come from Mars, Jupiter or the moon. But if they just return, it is going to work. This was my thought.”

However, the filmmaker said that nobody believed in the story. “Whenever I narrated the story to my actors and technicians, they all used to say, ‘Don’t make it, it’s not going to connect’. I was the only person who was confident. I felt this will work. Sometimes faith works a lot,” he said.

Interestingly, SRK, who gave a convincing performance as Arjun in the movie, didn’t understand the story, as per Roshan. “Shah Rukh till the end did not understand,” said the filmmaker. “Although he acted in the whole film, he said, ‘Rakeshji, you tell me what to do and I will do it, but I am not convinced with this.’ Rakhee was also not convinced. Amrish Puri was a good friend of mine, so he said, ‘I will do what you ask me to’. Most of the people around me weren’t convinced with the story.”

In the same interview, Roshan shared that the character of Karan was earlier supposed to be played by Ajay Devgn. However, Ajay and SRK once interchanged their characters and informed the same to Roshan. The filmmaker was aghast as he couldn’t imagine Khan as Karan and Ajay as Arjun. Eventually, Ajay left the film and SRK was back to playing Arjun.

Ajay was later replaced by Salman Khan, who became the first person from the cast to believe in the concept of Karan Arjun. “Salman was the only one who was convinced,” said Roshan.

The filmmaker also recalled Salman’s reaction during the trial show of Karan Arjun. “After two reels, Salman came and hugged me and said, ‘You have made a superhit film’. Salim Khan (Salman’s father and veteran screenwriter) said, ‘You don’t know what you have made, it’s going to be a big hit.’ I said I have no idea but thank you so much for saying such good words as this means a lot to me,” recalled Roshan.

1. Stree 2 Budget: Rs. 105 crores Box Office: Rs. 874.58 crores This was a film whose box office share in India alone was more than triple its budget. It was exceptional even Overseas, considering its cast and all the money that came from digital, TV and music rights added to the film’s profit. According to trade sources, the movie made more than Rs. 350 crores in profit for the makers. It is the biggest grosser in the history of Bollywood and its Return on Investment (ROI) is more than 300%. This makes Stree 2 a historic and one of its kind blockbuster.

2. Munjya Budget: Rs. 30 crores Box Office: Rs. 132.13 crores Munjya was released with minimal expectations but attracted the audience in hordes with each passing day. Its overseas box office performance was dismal but it didn’t matter at all as in India, it crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark. For a film made at a very limited cost and with a relatively unknown star cast, it was a feat. The revenue from the non-theatrical sources added to the delight of the producers, as they laughed all the way to the bank with approximate profit of around Rs. 68 cr.

The other most profitable films of the year are as follows (arranged in terms of their box office figures)

3. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 Budget: Rs. 150 crores Box Office: Rs. 417.51 crores The horror comedy was made on a lavish scale and the makers went all out to promote the film, considering the clash with the mighty Singham Again. It added to the costs but ultimately, it all paid off. The film opened with a bang and was the second-biggest Hindi grosser of the year. The makers landed a good deal for the sale of non-theatrical avenues and they ended up making considerable profit of around Rs. 125 cr.

4. Shaitaan Budget: Rs. 90 crores Box Office: Rs. 211.06 crores The film was aided by several factors – the trailer did the trick resulting in huge business at the ticket window, very good sales of its OTT rights and to add to it, the makers got a substantial amount back from the UK government as rebate. As a result, it ended up making a huge profit of around Rs. 90 cr. for the makers.

5. Crew Budget: Rs. 70 crores Box Office: Rs. 157.08 crores Crew’s budget was quite high but the producers had nothing to worry about the film was a success at the box office. It sprang a surprise Overseas. And then there was music, TV and OTT rights to further add to the smiles of its producers who laughed all the way to the bank with approx. Rs. 25 cr.

6. Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya Budget: Rs. 75 crores Box Office: Rs. 133.64 crores Its box office performance was a bit underwhelming, considering its cost. But it was a decent success and also got a huge moolah from the sale of its TV, digital and music rights due to the audience-friendly romcom genre, music and casting of popular actors like Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. The final tally of profit would be around Rs. 20 cr.

7. Article 370 Budget: Rs. 35 crores Box Office: Rs. 110.57 crores Due to the terrific reports and the nationalist theme, it did quite well despite the absence of a popular male face and soundtrack. The controlled costs further added to its value. The movie made a profit of around Rs. 25 cr.

8. Srikanth Budget: Rs. 40 crores Box Office: Rs. 62.92 crores Made at controlled costs, the Rajkummar Rao-starrer was a sleeper hit at the box office. Coupled with the non-theatrical revenue, the film emerged as a profitable venture with around Rs. 20 cr. in profit for the makers.

9. Madgaon Express Budget: Rs. 30 crores Box Office: Rs. 48.98 crores Not many expected anything from this film and also its collections were majorly from Maharashtra. But it managed to surprise and took advantage of the dry period at the box office. It had managed to recover its entire investment from non-theatrical sources and the sales from the box office added to its profit of around Rs. 15 cr.

10. Kill Budget: Rs. 25 crores Box Office: Rs. 47.12 crores Kill did well overseas, that too in non-traditional markets while in India, its performance was decent though one expected more due to the word of mouth. If that was the case, its profit margin would have been higher. Nevertheless, for a film with a newcomer and a theme that alienated a section of the audience, it delivered a profit of around Rs. 5 cr.

11. Laapataa Ladies Budget: Rs. 15 crores Box Office: Rs. 25.26 crores It is arguably the most acclaimed film of the year but its theatrical box office business was not up to the mark as a chunk of the audience saw the film later on, on Netflix. Nevertheless, its theatrical business was aided by the dry period and thanks to the association of Aamir Khan, it landed a nice deal with the streaming giant. It is estimated that the movie made approximately Rs. 5 cr. in profit for the makers

Trade experts speak up Trade guru Taran Adarsh opined, “Horror is an untapped genre for Hindi cinema. We have made a lot of action, romance, masala entertainers etc. Films are getting more and more violent. But horror was extremely popular and it still is. It was proven by Shaitaan , though it was a supernatural thriller and not exactly horror. Munjya and Stree 2 , meanwhile, had a good dose of horror and comedy. Also, let’s not forget that even Tumbbad (2018) was revived and it did very well. Hence, this genre really got a push in 2024 and I hope people continue to make many films in this space.”

He further said, “Back in the 70s and 80s, the Ramsays were very popular as most of their movies were money-spinners. My father was one of the distributors of their films. I had the chance to look into the accounts and I realized that their movies were very profitable. Their films would be sold as soon as they were announced; such was the craze. Dinesh Vijan has rightly tapped into it and even integrated comedy into it. In the recent past, Rohit Shetty did it with Golmaal Again (2017) and it succeeded.”

Taran Adarsh is all praises for Maddock Films as even their non-horror comedy film of the year, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya , made it to the list. He exulted, “When we talk of the prime banners of Bollywood, we usually talk of Yash Raj Films, Dharma Productions, Excel Entertainment etc. But 2024 belonged to Maddock. They got it all right and had a 100% track record.”

Trade guru Komal Nahta said, “There are very few films in 2024 which did well in theatres and were also sold at great prices for OTT and satellite; the satellite market has been very poor this year. Stree 2, Munjya and Article 370 are among the high ROI films. Those who managed to keep their costs in control have reaped the benefits. Also, Dinesh Vijan’s films work as he works very hard on music as well. A look at the list of most profitable ventures should underline how important music is. All the films are not musicals but at least the first two (Stree 2 and Munjya) are musical hits.”

He further said, “Going forward, producers have to keep the costs in check and word hard on the music. We are a musical country. One should not assume that ‘Music ke bina main blockbuster bana dunga’.”

The Battle Of Bhima Koregaon stars Arjun Rampal in the lead and he essays the role of Sidhnak Mahar, who, with the help of his army, bravely defeats the Peshwas in 1818. The other actors in this film include Digangana Suryavanshi, Govind Namdev, Milind Gunaji, Abhimanyu Singh, Krushna Abhishek and Yatin Karyekar. Sunny Leone also features in the film as a spy-cum-dancer. It is directed and produced by Ramesh Thete, an ex-IAS officer.

A source told us, “For the longest time, there has been no update about the film or its shoot. The actors in the film have also moved on and are working on other projects. Some junior artists or extras were paid in advance to shoot for the film. But their scenes were never shot.”

The source further continued, “There are films under production which get shelved and they might not get public attention as their assets were not unveiled. In the case of The Battle Of Bhima Koregaon, the makers had organized a grand event and later also unveiled the film’s posters and songs. Moreover, they also sold VIP passes worth Rs. 500 to thousands of people. As per the offer, a lucky winner will win a cash prize of Rs. 5 crores while five lucky winners will get prizes of Rs. 21 lakhs.”

In mid-2024, Bollywood Hungama contacted Ramesh Thete to ask for an update but he was unavailable. The director-producer used to run an active YouTube channel where he used to share updates about the film. He last posted a video on October 25, 2023, where he explained why the film’s shoot got stuck. In this 25-minute-long clip, he blamed late art director Nitin Desai for the delay. Ramesh revealed that though he paid Rs. 4 crores plus to Nitin Desai to shoot the film at N D Studios in Karjat near Mumbai, the art director didn’t allow him to shoot after Covid-related restrictions were lifted in 2020. As per Ramesh Thete, he only shot for 34 days though he had booked the place for 60 days.

In this video, he assured that the film will release anyhow in 2024 and asked all those who bought VIP passes to be patient. He further said that he planned to release The Battle Of Bhima Koregaon in 3000+ screens. 2024 has ended and 2025 has begun and sadly, there has been no update on this film whatsoever.

Wolf Man centres around the Blake family—Blake, Charlotte, and their young daughter Ginger—who decide to take a break from their city life and visit a remote property. What follows becomes the heart of the film’s plot. The family is suddenly attacked by an unknown creature, forcing them to desperately seek refuge inside a farmhouse as the beast lurks outside. As the night unfolds, Blake starts to exhibit bizarre behavior, slowly transforming into something unrecognizable, putting both his wife and daughter in grave danger.

Emmy Award winner Julia Garner explains that what drew her to the script of Wolf Man was its exploration of love and loss. She further elaborated, saying, “It’s about connection and grief.” Reflecting on her preparation for the film, Julia added, “When somebody’s in front of you and they’re slowly disappearing, it’s not a sudden death, but a slow process. Early on, Leigh discussed wanting to connect and then having that person not be there anymore. When we started prepping, I told him that I wanted it to feel that the audience was going through the seven stages of grief in one night. When Blake is going through the physical stages, Charlotte is going through the mental ones.”

Challenges behind filming Recalling one particular sequence, Ameesha highlighted the scenes shot on a picturesque island as being especially tough. “The island being the most cutest scene, but it was the most difficult part,” she shared. Despite the serene and romantic setting depicted on screen, the conditions were far from ideal for the cast and crew.

Ameesha Patel opens up about filming “We were sweating in 45 degrees of heat,” Ameesha revealed, describing the extreme weather conditions they endured while filming the romantic moments. The oppressive heat posed several challenges, not least of which was maintaining their appearance for the camera. “The makeup was peeling due to the sun,” she added, emphasizing how the harsh sunlight made it difficult to maintain continuity and create the flawless look required for the scene.

Balancing emotion and challenges However, it wasn’t just the physical discomfort that made the shoot challenging; it was also the emotional performance demanded of her. “The most difficult was to keep your eyes open and show the audience that you are feeling romantic,” Ameesha explained. Battling the glaring sunlight while conveying a sense of love and connection for the audience required immense focus and determination.

In an interview with Filmygyan, Rasha Thadani addressed comparisons with fellow star kids Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, and Suhana Khan. When the interviewer read out a netizen’s comment stating, “Janhvi, Khushi, Suhana ko takkar dene aa rahi hai Raveena Tandon ki beti Rasha. (Raveena Tandon’s daughter Rasha is coming to compete with Janhvi, Khushi, and Suhana).” Reacting to this comment, Rasha said, “I think they are all more experienced than me. They have done more work than I have. They have already completed films and had their releases. So, I think there’s something I can actually learn from them. They have had more experience, so I don’t think it’s like that.”

Rasha Thadani recently appeared on Salman Khan's reality show Bigg Boss 18 alongside her mother, Raveena Tandon, and her Azaad co-star, Aaman Devgan. Reflecting on the experience, Rasha expressed excitement about promoting her debut film in front of Salman, whom she shares a close bond with since childhood. The star kid revealed how special it felt to take such a significant step in her career with Salman present, adding a nostalgic touch to her promotional journey.

Following this, Rasha Thadani shared a heartfelt post on Instagram featuring moments from her appearance on Bigg Boss 18. The photos captured her dancing and sharing fun interactions with Salman Khan, alongside her mother, Raveena Tandon, director Abhishek Kapoor, and co-star Aaman Devgan. One standout slide was a “then vs now” comparison, featuring a childhood photo of her sitting on Salman's lap alongside a recent picture from their reunion. Aaman has been in a choc-o- bloc schedule currently promoting his movie and also his next movie titled Jhalak has been announced. During his interactions with the media Aaman made some interesting revelations. He spoke about how at a tender age of 15 he came to know the world of cinema and he decided to be an actor.

Aaman said, “I was very young when I saw Bhagat singh and one day over lunch I asked him (Ajay Devgn) where is your costume and that's when he (Ajay Devgn) told me that this is acting and I dress up for roles and thats when I got to know about this world and I decided I want to be an actor.” He also added,” I was just 15 years old when I had this interaction and it drove me to decide that I want to be an actor.”

Aaman Devgan has undergone intensive training for Azaad, including horse riding and spending time with the horse to build a bond. He has been involved in all aspects, from eating and sleeping to cleaning the horse's stools, to bring their friendship to life on screen.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor and produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Pragya Kapoor, Azaad promises to be an emotional tale about the unbreakable bond between humans and animals. Veteran trade analyst Taran Adarsh, in an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, said that the lesser number of films releasing in 2024 was the reason for the collections going down. “We had certain weeks and also holiday weeks, including Gandhi Jayanti, where no movies released,” he said. “That was a problem last year where certain windows and certain weeks were completely blank. And then there were certain weeks where it was crowded. One wonders as to why was this happening. Last year was the year of correction, which started the previous year. So, you saw limited releases. I think content is to be blamed and as well as lack of content.”

Adarsh also believes that the whole outlook of the decision makers needs a revamp. “Industry should stop making proposals,” he said. “They think like, we will take this actor for this price and another actor for this price, we will get this much amount from digital, theatrical and overseas, etc. Now, that has to stop. Yes, it is important to look at economics; I am not denying that. But that being a foundation is not right. Take a good story and a big star or whatever your choices are and give it that budget.”

He also touched upon the issue of actors’ fees. He said, “I think the actors have also realized it last year that they need to rework on economics. Earlier those who were sitting on a high horse have returned back to earth. They have realized that if there will be no work and no producers, how will our films get made?”

Over-Reliance on Dubbed Films One of the most significant issues plaguing Hindi cinema in 2024 was its heavy reliance on dubbed versions of South Indian films. These accounted for 31% of Hindi box office collections, with massive contributions from blockbusters like Pushpa 2: The Rule and Kalki 2898 AD. While these films bolstered the overall numbers, they exposed the industry’s overdependence on external content rather than homegrown productions.

Decline in Original Hindi Films Original Hindi-language films suffered a staggering 37% drop in collections, revealing a significant disconnect with audiences. Only six original films managed to cross the ₹100 crore mark, a sharp decline from the 16 films that achieved this milestone in 2023. This downturn underscores a lack of compelling storytelling and innovation in the Hindi film space.

The Footfall Conundrum Footfalls for Hindi films dropped by 16% in 2024, amounting to 23 crore compared to 27.5 crore in 2023. This decline reflects audience dissatisfaction and a growing inclination towards regional and international content. Pre-pandemic footfalls for Hindi cinema consistently exceeded 30 crore, highlighting the widening gap in audience engagement.

The Tentpole Film Dependence In 2024, Hindi cinema became increasingly reliant on tentpole films to drive revenues. Pushpa 2: The Rule (Hindi) and Stree 2 alone contributed a staggering ₹1,587 crore, accounting for 34% of the total Hindi box office collections. While these films showcased the audience’s appetite for high-budget spectacles, the lack of strong mid-budget films further emphasized the industry’s imbalance.

Competition from Regional and Hollywood Films Regional industries like Malayalam and Telugu cinema witnessed significant growth in 2024, capturing larger shares of the market. Meanwhile, Hollywood, despite its decline, continued to cater to niche audiences, leaving Hindi cinema struggling to retain its once-dominant position.

As far as the reliance on Hindi dubbed South films is concerned, Adarsh is all for it as it benefits the exhibitors. “These Pan-India stars have become major stars,” he said. “Be it, Jr. NTR, Allu Arjun, Prabhas, Ram Charan, etc. But I feel when our stars don’t contribute to the numbers and these stars do, at least the exhibitors are getting what they want. When I see people cribbing that this was a south Indian film, first of all, we don’t need compartmental lives. We all come under one umbrella, which is Indian cinema. I agree it’s Telugu film dubbed in Hindi. But when the exhibitors play the Hindi version, all that matters are the box office collections.”

Sharing a recent example, he added, “Marco started on a very poor note of Rs. 1 lakh on day one. But today it has crossed Rs. 11 crores in the fourth weekend. Today, nobody is saying that it’s a Malayalam film. It’s been released in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil as well. The thing is that exhibitors are benefitting from it. We can’t be surviving on Pushpa 2 for the next three or six months. So, I feel dubbed films are welcome.”

Reflecting on her journey in a recent interview with Grazia, Malavika said, "Working in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi films has taught me to appreciate the nuances of different traditions and ways of life.” She elaborated, “This teaches you to respect and understand various backgrounds, and as an actor, you get to live so many different lives through your characters. With the rise of OTT and social media, a good film can reach audiences across India, breaking language barriers and expanding horizons. It’s an exciting time to be an actor, and I love exploring such varied roles across industries.”
