Dyslexia, Language Learning Differences

The Odyssey School serves children ages five thru Grade 8 with dyslexia and other language learning differences. Specialized instruction empowers students to build academic skills, celebrate talents, and become strong self-advocates enabling future success in independent and public high schools. The 12-month school program serves male and female adolescents ages 12 through 20 who are exhibiting serious emotional, behavioral and learning disorders and who are not yet able to function in less restrictive school settings. Located on the grounds of Mountain Manor Treatment Centers.

We offer an 11 month non-graded educational program to students ages 5 to 21 and a new special education program for students in elementary school, grades K – 3. Adults services include day, vocational, residential and employment options.

Cornerstone Academy serves students with ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety disorder, PDD, processing disorders and Aspergers. We meet the needs of students who fall between the cracks of public and other private schools.

Partnership program aims to integrate students with special needs with other students by holding private classes in a public school setting. Class sizes are small and curricula is supported by each student’s goals. Students have access to all indoor and outdoor facilities at SHS, and are able to participate in extracurriculars and school events.

Brady Aaron Program serves students with special needs who pay privately or are publicly funded. Small class sizes allow for individualized instruction, and personalized services are provided as needed at additional cost. The school emphasizes technology and fine arts.

Glenwood Academy is a small private school located in Western Howard County, MD. We specialize in children with learning differences such as ADHD and language based learning disabilities. Our campus is located in a beautiful wooded setting that was chosen specially for our ADHD students who need to get outside regularly throughout the day. The nature paths throughout the woods were made for science and exploration, while the open areas provide ample room for other activities. The children feel safe and are given the freedom and guidance to flourish into their best selves. It is not the child that needs to change but rather the approach.

Glenwood Academy empowers ADHD students with language-based learning disabilities: such as, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dyslexia, and language processing difficulties through a multi-sensory, developmental, language-intensive curriculum. Private specialists integrate the skills taught within the classroom setting. They work as a team with the classroom teachers to provide the best language intensive education possible! Our Project-focused curriculum integrates academic rigor with cutting-edge technologies. We can only accomplish this by limiting our class size to 10. ALL of our students discover his or her individual potential for greatness!

LEAP stands for Lifeskills & Education for students with Autism & other Pervasive behavioral challenges. Intensive, 12-month program for students referred by their local school system. Offers additional services like sensory integration, expressive therapy and fitness programs.

Serves students working toward a high school diploma. Those from Montgomery County are given preference. Offers career and future preparation through work based learning (WBL) and community-based instruction.

Referrals are accepted via the nonpublic school placement offices of public school districts. Parents should use the IEP process of their child’s school district to seek placement.

An innovative, multi-sensory school for children with language-based learning weaknesses. One-to-one Orton-Gillingham tutoring offered to those reading below grade level.

Full-day, 12-month special and general education school offered to residents of the treatment center. Aids in cognitive, social, and emotional development. Offers courses in art, technology skills, and computer skills, as well as access to a multi-media library and gymnasium.

Blind/Partially Sighted, Deaf-Blind, Autism & Related Disorders, Developmental Disabilities, Physical Disabilities

As a statewide resource center, The Maryland School for the Blind (MSB) provides outreach, educational and residential services for students to reach their fullest potential by preparing them to be as successful, independent and well-rounded contributing members of their communities as possible.

MSB, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit private school, currently serves 56% of the 1,700 students identified as blind or visually impaired throughout all 24 Maryland jurisdictions. Through on campus and outreach programs, as well as the Maryland Instructional Resource Center, MSB provides quality educational programs for individuals from infancy to age 21. Approximately 95% of the 200 students served in the day school and residential programs have intellectual, sensory, behavioral, and physical disabilities as well as health challenges in addition to their visual impairment. Since 1853, MSB has offered individualized programs to meet these special needs.

Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) offers early intervention services to Deaf and hard of hearing infants and toddlers (birth to age 4 years), as well as a complete academic program for students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing from Preschool (full day) through High School.

St. Anselm is a program within our Academy that allows students to dual enroll in both mainstream classes while also receiving pull-out instruction as needed. Students can also enroll full time in the St. Anselm program.
