Practicum Take Over!!!

'My practicum students created & taught their own lessons this week!!  It has been fun to watch them as they see success & areas that need improvement.  As a teacher of many many moons.....it is so energizing to see young educators start to discover who they are!!

2nd Grade
Ms. Wilson did a POP ART lesson focused on Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans.
The kids loved creating their own wacky flavors.
(Though one is Mr. E flavored...and the paint brush has red on it?? My blood?)

1st Grade

Ms. Saunders focused her lessons on Picasso & him abstracted portraits.

The students laughed so much as they created versions of themselves with eyes, ears, and mouths going every which way!  They also enjoyed using construction paper crayons.

Ms. Alday read to the students a story about scarecrows.  The students focused on using shapes to create their works of art.  They also used construction paper crayons.  

The practicum students are doing an amazing job...and my students are really enjoying them being here at our school!!  It is really a win-win situation if you are on the fence about practicum students!! 

Picasso Me: Kindergarten

My kindergarten classes are great this year!  I decided I'd do some Picasso inspired self portraits with them this week.  We discussed Dora-Maar, and how she did not look "normal".  We talked about the different perspectives showed in the work..and the unusual color choices.  I was amazed by how many found the humor in making themselves "not normal".  In the past, my kindergarten students had a hard time grasping anything other than realism. This group is all in...and I'm excited to introduce them to some other abstracted works!!!

Here are the finished results from the Picasso self portraits!  They turned out WONDERFUL!  My markers bit the dust, but the work looks great!!

With the required curriculum for our district complete, I told my student teacher to have fun in creating lessons that she'd like to "try out" in the safety of student teaching.  I like how she went about this lesson..different than I usually do.   I may be "borrowing" her version of this lesson!!!! ha ha  Just another reason I love having student teachers...it is a win-win situation(if they are good!).

This has to be one of my favorite ones..mainly because it fits the student's personality perfectly!

We have been looking at the work of Pablo Picasso...including watching the Dropping In On... video.  The students really love his work.  We focused on The Three Musicians.  One of the requirements was that the person be in motion somehow some way.  We discussed the joints of the body and how they moved.  Students demonstrated poses that they could represent in their work.  I also asked that they create an environment & have interesting details.

CLASSY!

I'm not a fan of blood & such in kids art, but this was so clever...I had to share it!  The person fell through the window head first and cracked their head!  I'm not sure if that is blood or their brain on the floor, but I gotta say....I asked for details....and I got them!!!!

My second grade has been looking at & creating still lifes in many different styles.  Picasso was an artist we had previously studied (portraits), and I thought would be great to revisit.  The students love his "wacky style"(one of my students actually said this).  We used tempera to paint.  This was a two session project.  Day 1: Draw & Paint bold colors  Day 2: Outline in black & finish painting anything that is unfinished
