FIRST WEEK BACK

The 2017-2018 School Year is underway!

A few years ago I started kickin' off the year with a little RAZZMATAZZ!  

I wanted to get away from the same old rules/procedures, and get the kids excited about the upcoming year in art.

It really is a hybrid kind of day.  I still briefly run through THE ART ROOM WAY & classroom procedures(less then 10 min!)  I still have the kids create a full body self portrait (something they can work on while I'm working with small groups painting).  

This year's "razzmatazz" is a collaborative banner.  I cover the table with a plastic sheet(Tape it down so it doesn't scoot too much!).  They are painting on a cotton fabric(I think it might be duck cloth...I believe that is what I've heard it called in the past).  I have each class create a new "layer".   Groups of 4 to 6 students at a time work on the banner...until all students have contributed. We use an acrylic paint..which dries quickly when spread thin.  By the time the next class runs through rules/procedures & begins their self portraits....it gives it will be dry enough for the next layer.  Make sure students have art shirts on!!!   Each day creates their own banner.

(Kindergarten's contribution is not added yet...they have half days the first two days of school.  I'll have them start adding to the banner's tomorrow!!  I'll share the finished product in a later post)

Preview of 2014-2015 School Year

This is my art room sign above my door made from Fun Foam.

So I like to get a few things done for "next year" (which is really less than 2 months away) at the end of  "this year"!  With our special area team all on board for doing a "global theme"...I decided blues & greens would be a great choice for my room! (I change my color theme every year...I have enough fabric so I can have 7 yrs in a row be different if I want to...warm colors..cool colors..primary..etc....and I make all my letters and borders by hand each year to match the colors...oh..and the chair footies too!)  

Last week of school every year I have my students make turtles in my room's color theme...that way I have something to hang up at the start of school.  I was just checking to make sure I had enough..I'll store them for summer way from lights.

Sneak Peek Into Mr. E's Room 2012-2013

I've never felt this far behind before in creating my bulletin boards & organizing my classroom!!! I guess having two kiddos changes things.  I just be at school for a week or two before school nonstop like I use to when I was single....or even married without children?!?!  Family first though...and the bulletin boards will get done...sooner or later?!?! :)  ha ha  

Not My Bulletin Boards..BUT COOL IDEAS!!!

These are a couple things happening in my hallway at school that I thought were fun & wanted to share.

Mrs. Manning is very proud of her board!!!  She actually had a parent get his picture by it today....and it wasn't her parent!?!!? ha ha    She doesn't always think of her self as a creative person, but I love this idea!!

She bought plastic Easter eggs (I'm sure on sale after Easter)...glittered them...and then hot glued them onto a CD.  The little alien she purchased through Oriental Traders, but I'm sure you could find something elsewhere(or have the kids make one out of Model Magic!)

She wrote the name on the CD...one for each of her students.  The girl aliens had bows!! ha ha  I think I might have used stickers for the kids names for an extra POW of color, but Sharpie works!!

Ms. C is a Pinterest QUEEN!  I'm not sure if she got this from Pinterest, but I wouldn't doubt it.  They are small paper plates that you can get just about anywhere.  Wal-Mart has them for a good price I know..and a large variety of colors.  She has a "WELCOME" sign above her door...and her Word Wall  with them inside her room!  It really adds a great pop of color!!
